Hi, everyone!
I see lots of new names on the board, that's great! Welcome everyone. I found this site in January of this year and it helped me get my IBS-D under control SO WELL that I'm celebrating 11 months of no attacks today!!
Heather's diet and guidelines about soluble fiber supplements and antispasmodics like her peppermint caps REALLY REALLY WORKS! All it takes is the willingness to do what's good for you (well, 98% of the time anyway!). If you cheat you'll pay. But if you follow her suggestions, you'll feel much much better.
Yes, sometimes I wish I could still eat like I used to. We live in NYC which is foodie gourmet heaven. I especially miss barbecue, hamburgers and sinfully rich chocolate desserts. But it's just not worth it. I satisfy my chocolate cravings with one small piece of dark chocolate after an IBS-safe meal. We go out to fancy restaurants and I fill up on bread and roast chicken! I don't drink anymore either which makes a HUGE difference.
So to all the newbies, hang in there, find the parts of Heather's approach that work the best for you, and DON'T CHEAT!! Think of it as like being a diabetic. If you cheat you'll get sick. And when you're sick you can't enjoy life. Trust me, I know.
So now I'm aiming for Jan 9 which will be ONE FULL YEAR since my last attack of D. The holidays are a challenging time, but I have accepted that I have a chronic illness that is well controlled at the moment but is NOT cured. And I'm going to be good. Because I'm worth it!
Happy holidays, everyone!

Thats is so great that you have made it 11 months. I am so happy for you. Just knowing that you can do it gives me hope that I can make it as well. On December 3 I celebrated 1 month attack free. I am now aiming for January 3 which will make it 2 months. I totally agree with following the diet it works. I now know what I can eat and can't eat and really follow that. I just don't want to have another attack and knowing that you have made it this far gives me hope.
Once again CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Michelle
