It is no cheaper to get them on-line than at my store. They have been $1.24 lately. At the coop they are .99. There goes my idea of saving money in bulk.

I was ordering digestive enzymes from GNC-drugstore.com and I bought a box of luna bars too. I think I will save money from this source and they have all the flavors.

Hey sinead, just wondering how much the postage and packing was for the luna bars?? If you dont mind me asking. Im in england...you may know as I posted a few months ago when you were getting started and was asking where people bought things from. Thanks for all the hard work on that brand names sticky post..well done...By the way if you dont already, try getting the doves farm tasty bars from tesco...not sure if they have that in ireland...but if not you can also order them online...theyre really good too!! Couldnt live without them...helps the chocolate fix...like the ADB'S...this is coming from the 19 year old who once couldnt survive without 3 chocolate bars a day and hadnt not had one for more than 3 days...Ive now managed practically without since february...apart from the odd dabble...god im making myself hungry...lucky ive got ADB'S in the fridge lol!

Hi Natalie,
it was $4.65 and I ordered three boxes ie 45 bars, the whol e thing came to $61.20 which is 47 EUR or 32 sterling. Whic is 71p €1.04 a bar including post and packaging.
I am going to make ADB's either later or tomorrow. Haven't seen the doves farm bars here but I have seen other stuff of that brand so will have to look them up, I was a chocoholic too and have had none since 10th August (not like I'm counting!) I haven't had the real thing once but eat soy chocolate desserts, ADBs etc. I would say I ONCE went without chocolate for two days when I was trying to lose weight but that was the best I ever did, I remember when I was in college going away for a weekend with BF and he could not get over how much chocolate I ate. Its great to have that under control now.

PS have you seen the brands list is up as a sticky now? Email me if there is anything you'd like to add to the UK one and I will sort it out. I am going to add Bernard Matthews Turkey Ham- I missed having ham in sandwiches and this stuff which comes pre sliced tastes like the real thing- there are only so many chicken sandwiches a girl can take! The only sandwich meats I could find in Lanzarote were pork based I was craving a chicken sandwich by the end of the week.

Spain sounds exciting, and I would LOVE to do the South America thing...one day I will definitely do a "world trip" I keep saying I want to have gone before I am 30 and I will be 29 next May so I had better clear these debts and get out of here soon!

Hey sinead thanks for the reply, I was going to email you a few things to add to the brands list but thought it was easier to just post, just drop a note if you've read this so I know you got it! I buy Walkers Lites ready salted crisps and have a bag a day, they only hav 5g fat per bag and are just made of salt potatoes and sunflower oil, so no triggers! Morrisons also do a low fat version of crisps which taste similar to the american baked lays called crispy thins (theyre morrisons own brand)and they only have 3g fat per bag! The supercook egg white powder which comes in a small box with 6 sachets equalling 12 egg whites are fantastic...couldnt live without them and they last for months so no need to worry about eggs going off! Theyre in the cake/baking section of Morrisons, sainsburys and Tescos. Tescos also do something called Tigerwhite which is made from the spanish chufas plant and is an alternative to rice/soy/almond milk. I tried it and didnt really like the taste...it actually tastes a bit plant like...I think there is 2 types...but it is totally ibs safe. Also...Tescos now stocks Toffuti Icecream which I know the americans are always going on about because it is gorgeous. They have a big and a small tub version in a vanilla, double choc fudge, strawberry, pecan and some other flavours. Its made from tofu and soy...the only problem is it is quite high in fat so you can only have a bit at a time if you can't deal with fat very well. They come in ben and jerrys style tubs. Tescos also does a soy choc bar, which I also saw in Morrisons the other day but again it is a bit high in fat so you could only have a bit at a time...but it doesnt contain whey casein or lactose like ordinary choc. Right think thats it...will email you if can think of anymore....hope that helps xx

Hey sinead, I cant believe they were going to charge you that much! Thats ridiculous...I had a look for Fibercon tablets cos we dont have any fiber tablets over here and Im sure the shipping prices were something similar! I was thinking about ordering some of those luna bars towards christmas as a treat and also to stear me well clear of chocolate during the festive season as this will be my first without my annual yard of cadburys dairy milk or box of roses i always have(not to mention selection boxes)...tho I may be tempted to have one or two....let me know if you find a cheaper way of ordering them! xx

I just read your info and saw you are studying at Leeds! I studied there! How is good old Leeds doing? I had IBS right through my time in Leeds....there is a good little health food shop near there and also Sainsbury's (if you have a car) has a good health food section etc...The Union used to have a little health booth (but not neccessarily IBS friendly!)...oh I miss Leeds now!!

Hey Ive just posted you a big long reply to you're email about feeling a bit down about your GI doc appt...have a look...I really will be thinking about you tomorrow! Hey...I love it here in Leeds...yea Ive had IBS since I was 15 so basically had to put up with the damn thing through every exam I took at school and am now in 2nd year uni...Im actually at Leed Met uni doing Interior Design and a HE Certificate in Spanish! I really like it here...dont worry Ive discovered the health shops...the fantastic thing is theres a holland and barrett opposite my campus that has everything and morrsions is also there too which sells the rice milk I drink....so I dont look so weird going into the health store all the time! What did you study in Leeds? What sort of music are you into...the nightlife is really good here...Im an r'n'b and hiphop girl...although I like a big mix of everything really....thats just the type of musci that I like to dance to at clubs! Was it you who posted about your round the world trip photos?? I had a look at some and it looked amazing...Im sure it was you...I really want to go to South America next summer to teach in a spanish orphange for a month...but Im so scared cos of the ibs....heat and lack of food supplies arent exactly going to help my IBS-D which is as bad as always at the moment despite me trying everything in my willpower to stop it. Its so weird hearing that another person with IBS has studied at uni in Leeds...I really do feel like the only one...Ive never come across anyone else before...then again Im not exactly forthcoming in telling ppl about mine...infact I tell no one...I use stomach/digestive disorder instead of the word bowel...and trying to avoid drink here is the hardest thing of all when practically every student here is legless most nights lol! Anyways hope you get my other post...keep i touch...you can email me anytime you want on nlc14@hotmail.com...do you have messenger?? xx

You wrote me the sweetest message on the living room. thank you so so so much. we were the same age when our ibs started. 15...not so much fun having to think about farts with your first boyfriend etc!!
It was me that went round the world!! I would suggest that you go to south east asia rather then south america for your first trip because south east asia is much more bowel friendly (yep..bloody bowels coming first again!) - its all rice and rice noodles and noodle soups and vegies...very light carb based food whereas south america is more oily and cheesy and beany...I might be wrong though..I mean south america have bread too!!You should go where you want though! I basically told my IBS to shove it when I embarked on my trip..nothing was going to stop me!
I was still drinking in my first two years of leeds and finally gave it up when I realised during my final year that my hangovers lasted ten times longer then anyone elses ie IBS!! I loved the night life there!!! Is Tequila still up and going for the ultimate cheese fest??? Thats an awful-hysterical place!! I'm not that into rnb...more trance and house...love to boogie though!! The drinking WILL calm down as you approach your final year...people get more serious then.
Where are you living? I know exactly where your campus is, and you are talking about the Holland and Barratt inside the little shopping centre with Morrisons! Glad to hear they have rice milk..they had nothing when i was there!
Thank you so much again for your reply on the living room...really made me feel understood and so supported...and like you..I WISH I could have had this board when I first got IBS...
Lots of love XXX

Yes I was talking about the merrion centre...its a great litlle place...yes they do still have that tequilla thing on Ive seen flyers about with it so Im guessing its on...we tend to avoid the cheese nights...though I have been to a few and they are amusing...though I think u really have to be drunk to enjoy them! I know what you mean about the whole drinking thing...before I found heathers website last year I was just drinking as I always had with friends...then once I found out that it could be making things worse I stopped cos the pain was becoming too much and I was terrified of having a D attack whilst out on a night out...my friends keep going on at me to get drunk...they want to see what Im like cos they never actaully have...well not my friends at uni...I did drink for the 1st few month but not enough to be drunk...I do get scared about it...infact the other night I had a sip of my friends wine and Im not kidding I could feel my stomch start to turn and started to panick...its the worst possible feeling and no one understands. One of my friends is convinced that if I drink it will numb the pain...oh how I wish it wud...altho I think id be an alcoholic by now. There are certain drinks that I knew didnt bother me so much before...so long as Id taken immodium, but now Ive just become too scared to try anything. Thanks for the advice about the travelling...as Im learning spanish I really want to go to South America cos I am practically fluent now...and Ive wanted to go to Peru for so long ....cos Ive seen how desperate the orphanages out there are need of help and its just something Ive always wanted to do...even if I do have to live off bread for a month! So glad you replied...keep in touch xx

No, you are not alone. I ran out and got two, lemon and nutty chocolate or something like that. They are not for me. And packed full of artificial vitamins and things. Sorry folks. To each his own I guess. I prefer more natural things.

not upset at all- just appreciative of your honesty... both of you... I like them, but then I have the issue of great difficulty finding a) enough time to prep enough food for me, and b) finding things I can eat on 15 minute scheduled breaks in a call center, especially when sometimes I also have to run to the bathroom during those... so they work well for those times, as well as when I'm on the run like yesterday.

In Heather's Eating for IBS book, she has recipes for tea using Green Tea powder. I think it must be different than your standard Green Tea.

Well, they are tollerable, but if I were able to eat a chocolate bar, I certainly would choose the chocolate! They aren't anything special, they just give you the illusion that you are having a treat and eating chocolate...or shall I say, something like it. At first, I hated them, then I continued to eat them knowing how good they are for me and I do like them now.

Thanks for voicing your opinion. Don't feel bad about it, you are entitled.

I have only tried the Key Lime Pie bar and I don't eat them that often. My body is still adjusting to soy.

Thanks for sharing.

Actually most of them are pretty natural (as much as processed food can be). They are fortified with vitamins just like cereals and other foods. There really aren't "artificial" vitamins (although synthetic vitamins exist, ex. dl-alpha tocopherol is the synthetic version of vitamin E). I think they are pretty tasty, but I am a big protein bar eater (some can be pretty nasty). I just wish they'd lose the sexist slogan "The Whole Nutrition Bar for WOMEN"

I've been in a Walmart TWO times.... once to buy flower pots for my beach wedding (it was near the beach) and one time at the same one when we left the beach area for our honeymoon cuz the darn wire in my bra broke the night of rehersal dinner! LOL So, I needed a cheapy to get me by.

There are a few in Washington but they are all like an hour+ away so I don't bother.

I've never been to a Walmart. I don't know where there is one. Other places I've never been to: Kmart, Sam's Club, Target. I guess I don't get around much. Oh also TJ Macks. I'm sure I could think of others...

apparently, the snobs around here don't go there, it is reserved for 'white trash'. I could care less, I love going there for cheap, interesting thongs (seriously! they have nice ones sometimes, my favorites are my yankee doodle musicals and my thong with guitars)
Right now I am wearing a zip front hoodie sweatshirt with the Eagles logo on it that I bought there, it looks nice and is of nice quality, and probably about a third (atleast) of the price I could buy one from the stadium for, sheesh, my hat that my parents bought me at the stadium cost more than this thing! Almost everything in my apartment came from Target or Walmart.

I am gonna post seperately on my LUna update!

OH, and even stylish dreadlocked gals like the Nelly can find stuffs at W-mart, a couple of funky accesories can go a long way... the clerk in a trendy expensive 'boutique' complimented me on my handbag once, if only she knew I bought it for three dollars at Walmart LOL

Actually, it smells nice, but tastes GROSS! I think it is too sweet for me. I would eat again if there was nothing else available, though ( I have no shame )
I also tried Smores, I think I hyped it up that it was gonna be greater than it was, I didn't like it ALOT, but it was ok and I would eat it again.
I had already tried LEmon Zest and loved it, but I ate it again today and thought it was too sweet, also. : (
I guess my memory on how it tasted was skewed the first time around, I was pretty drunk, and EVERYTHING tastes good to me when I am drunk.
Seriously, before I happily accepted and ate a piece of pizza (the premade oven kind) with cheese puffs mushed into it that my drunk friend had given me. I loved it, too.
I know, i know, that is really nasty... i would puke if I did that now

LOL! I have to get my clothes altered cos of my size, and since altering is an additional investment my clothes have to be of a quality that will last. Since places like the Gap only have long-sleeved shirts that only go to above my wrists, it's either wear quality clothes or be stuck in men's wear or freakish women's basketball clothes for me. *sigh*

I suppose I could buy a hat or something at a Target store, but why park an acre away to fight housewives and screaming babies for bargains? And I'd prefer not to shop at a place where guns and ammo are sold, so it limits my large thrift warehouse shopping possibilities somewhat (You'd be surprised where they sell guns and bullets with basketballs and kids' tennis shoes). *shudder*

But I don't count out a day where I might step foot in a store like that. I went to a JC Penny's once in Idaho, but that was because it was the only large scale retail store within 30 miles, and I needed a wool blanket. Idaho winters are coooold. Necessity before ideals.

Dulce de Leche - Yum!!!
Chocolate Peppermint Stick - Delicious! I'm not even a "mint person," either!
LemonZest® - Okay
Nutz Over Chocolate™ - YUMMERS
S'Mores - GOOD

Does anyone have a good, low-cost source for these? The cheapest I ever find them is when they're 99 cents a piece at Trader Joe's. Maybe I should read the rest of the thread...

I can't believe it... I finally found one I can't stand! Key Lime Pie tastes like over-sweetened chemical-y citrus, and it left an incredibly nasty aftertaste in my mouth. I had to eat something else to "wash" it down. Blech.

Hi Natalaie,

I know it's a bit forthcoming coming from an english person and all but I work in the Merrion centre maybe we could hook up some time for a chat.

I know what you mean about drinking and chocolates at this time of the year, what I have found where drinking is concerened is have plenty of water. for every alchoholic drink have two glasses of water. I'm pretty scared myself with so many xmas parties coming up and then of course xmas itself. Courage and a smile will get us all through the festive season.

Yea that'd be lovely to meet up some time! You'd have to describe yourself a bit so that I know who to look for...I have uni next tues so will be passing through...Id drop in and say hi if I knew. Having said that if Im with my friends(all of whom know I have 'stomach problems' but dont know that I use this website and may think Im a bit odd)I may have to be subtle....I'd love to pop in and have a chat though. If I dont get to before tues....as thats when Im going back home for xmas....then definately sometime when I get back. My email is on my profile if you'd rather email me about yourself rather than post...nice to hear from you

Havn't thrown my hat in here yet I guess.
Luna bars became my good freinds during my HORRIBLE flare about a year ago now - for a couple weeks I basically lived off of luna bars, water, rice with soy sauce and apple sauce. I do find them a bit dry, but they're one of the few things I can eat almost any time and not get sick from them - and it's nice to pretend I'm eating chocolate - on the flavors - any of the ones with chocolate are pretty good!

Oh, oh. Key lime was the first one I tried and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!!!! I absolutely loved it and can't wait to try another one.

I also tried the Chai Tea one and liked it too.....oh and the Chocolate Peppermint one.

Oh, oh,.....I'm getting hooked on them.

Toasted nuts and cranberries is the one I eat the most too. I can't say I don't like Nutz over Chocolate better but Toasted Nuts has less fat and I am dieting.

Yeah... peanuts and I don't get along... peanuts give me heartburn, and peanut butter gives me D! But I guess there's not enough peanuts in the Sweet Dreams ones to cause me problems. Yay for that!

Yep they sent me an ad with the new flavors a while back. I posted something about it. All I remember is peanut butter cookie (sounds yummy) had lots more fat and iced oatmeal raisin sounded pretty good. I can't remember the last one.

P.S. I used to like toasted nuts but don't like them now with less sugar. It is nice to have them be less fat and cals though.

Well, I have tried just about every flavor available now, so here is my Sheri Review !

Quote:

Caramel Apple - *discontinued
Dulce de Leche - thought was too sweet first time a couple of months ago, tried last night and LOVED it!
Chai Tea - One of my new favs, thought it would be yucky but it was so good and cinnamonn-y
Cherry Covered Chocolate™ - tasted almost like cough drop flavored, maybe too choclate-y, think I might like better the second time around
Chocolate Pecan Pie - LOVE IT! (good for making me 'go' in the morning, too )
Chocolate Peppermint Stick - never tried, don't like peppermint
Key Lime Pie - LOVE IT, but tastes suspisously like LemonZest, but not as yummy
LemonZest® - Love it! One of my favs, but kinda tired of it, it is one of the most readily available around me
Nutz Over Chocolate™ - Love it, but same as LemonZest. Satisfies my PB craving though!
Orange Bliss™ - My favorite zesty one! I am in love!
Peanut Butter 'N Jelly - *discontinued
S'Mores -love it! May be my fav chocolate-y one! never have to be sad about being vegetarian and not having marshmallow smores anymore!
Sesame Raisin Crunch - *discontinued
Sweet Dreams™ - kinda sickly sweet, it was good though if in the mood
Toasted Nuts 'N Cranberry - I LOVE This one! Sweet, but not candy sweet. Gotta love the nuts and pumpkin seeds, too
Tropical Crisp - *discontinued

One more note, has anyone else noticed that at first luna bars aren't very appetizing but then they grow on you? i was never to into them, now I eat one everyday. Some flavors start out not tasting that great, Igive them another shot and they are delicous. Am I alone here?

No, you're definitely not alone!

At first I thought they tasted artificial/ like a diet bar/ tolerable, but unappetizing.

Now, I seriously look forward everything day for the time in the day that I "get to have my Luna". I found them on sale for a dollar a piece again, and stocked up. For some reason, when this store has them on sale, they also have a better flavor selection.

I appologize if this question is silly, but I know the LUNA bars are on Heather's OK list. I bought a few of them yesterday and they tout a bunch of health facts for women. OK, here comes the silly part, why are they marketed just for women, is there any reason I can't have them if I'm a guy? I believe they're the only IBS safe, non-dairy, protein bars, right?

It's okay for men to eat Luna bars. I don't know why they're only marketed toward women. I went to the Luna Bar website and similar questions to yours were on their FAQs list. Here's the link: Luna Bar HTH! I hope you give them a try! They're very tasty!

I suggested a ton of new flavors one day on the site. Anyone who has ideas can make suggestions and maybe someday they will make your flavor. I especially want tiramisu and something banana.

These are the 12 "old" Luna Bars. I guess I'm getting this in right under the wire - my Whole Foods didn't have the 3 new ones yet.

Overall, I like Luna Bars and I'm glad to know about them as something to take with when I may be away from home food for a while, but I find that I'm hungry less than an hour after I eat one. Sometimes I feel like I'm hungry an hour after I ate one even if I wasn't hungry when I ate it. (If that makes sense.) I was pretty suprised at that, since I thought the protein would stave off hunger for a while.

Anyhow, my reviews:

Nutz Over Chocolate - Very good; tastes sort of like a Baby Ruth candy bar

Lemon Zest - Good, but very sweet

S'mores - Good; doesn't taste like S'mores, but does taste like Nestle's Crunch Bar, which I really like

Chocolate Pecan Pie - Didn't do anything for me; tasted sort of blah

Toasted Nuts and Cranberry - Good; tastes like granola did back when it was first "discovered" and people made their own

Chocolate Peppermint Stick - Oh, my - yum! Tastes almost like a Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie, the absolute nirvana of cookiedom. Definitely my favorite!

Dulce de Leche - Good; tastes like the old Bit-O-Honey bars

Key Lime Pie - Good; just enough lime, not too sweet, can almost taste the graham cracker crust

Cherry Covered Chocolate - Skipped; I don't like cherry and chocolate together

Sweet Dreams - This one I don't like; tastes like coffee to me and I'm not a coffee person

Chai Tea - Skipped; I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine

Orange Bliss - Not for me; tastes just like Tropicana Orange Juice and gave me a touch of indigestion

Chocolate Peppermint Stick Luna Bars are my favorite and right now the only Luna Bars I eat religiously--I mean, regularly. Twice a day. Ahem.

Nutz Over Chocolate and Lemon Zest come next, but I find they sometimes leave an unpleasant aftertaste. Still, they're quite good for a snack bar. I don't really care for any of the other flavors.

(Yesterday, I found Luna Bars at Target for 97 cents each! In the Northwest, we also have a grocery store called WinCo, which sometimes lowers the price of Luna Bars to 88 cents. )

Yesterday, I found Luna Bars at Target for 97 cents each! In the Northwest, we also have a grocery store called WinCo, which sometimes lowers the price of Luna Bars to 88 cents. They're always 99 cents at my local Whole Foods. I certainly haven't seen them for 88 cents. Betcha buy up all the Peppermint Stick ones at that price - I would!

Hey everyone... I called my local Whole Foods and they did not know when they would be getting the new flavors in. So, I emailed cooperate and requested them.....the more of us that do it...I think the faster they will be in ALL Whole Foods!! Here is the contact page for corporate. Be sure to reference the flavors Peanut Butter Cookie, Cookies N Cream Delights, & Iced Oatmeal Raisin (otherwise they might think you are talking about the "New Formulated" ones).

I bought what I thought was a new luna bar at the Palace of Whole Foods (giant super cool corporate headquarters store) the other week- the box said, NEW! Turns out it was new several years ago and is now discontinued. You'd think the brand new shiny Whole Foods would have newer Luna bars. Ah well, it was new to me.

I ordered from Lunabar.com. It's probably more expensive than buying in the store, but I just wanted to be able to have one of each flavor (I think it comes with about 15) just to try them and that way, I would know which ones to actually buy regularly later on! Someone else posted about the GNC website somewhere in this thread, so you might want to check that one out if you know the specific flavors you want.

I mostly eat mine as a snack. If I'm not super hungry or if I'm in a hurry, I occasionally use them as a meal replacement, but I eat a banana too - 180 calories from the bar alone isn't enough for a meal for me.

I use them as a meal replacer when I don't have time for my oatmeal or as a snack when I'm running errand or go to the movies. It keeps me from munching too much of my husband's popcorn.

Review:

Dulce de Leche: Yum! I will be getting this one again

Chocolate Covered Cherry: Tasty, very rich. Would not eat this one for breakfast again, but it would be great as a snack.

HI everyone. This is my first post on the Boards so i figured i'd post a reply to my favorite snack!

I love the one called "chocolate covered cherry" YUM!!

I get mine at a place called Vitamins Plus inside a discount drug store called Drug Emporium. They are always 75 cents. Sounds like that must be a really good price but I never knew it. NOw i feel lucky.

Oooh...There's a carmel nut brownie variety now? I hope I find that today. I'm fresh out of Luna Bars.

I really like the nut and cranberry type. It's good for breakfast, but my overall favorite is probably Lemon Zest.

Nope - no dairy.

There is a disclaimer on the packaging that says it may contain trace amounts of dairy - this is probably because it is processed on the same machines as other products that do contain dairy.

The nutrition info can be found on the site that Shell posted.

Also, please re-post the website for the nutritionals. I can't find it in all of these posts here. It would be SO cool to have something sweet I could eat without baking!

I tried a few of the original type and they gave me nasty gas and bloat. They contain soy and inulin which can cause real problems for some of us. Some have dried dates and/or nuts which cause me problems too.

Just know that they aren't necessarily a safe food for everyone.

The fat grams range from about 4 to 6 I'd say.

Dulce de Leche - YUM
Chocolate Nut Brownie - YUM
Chocolate Pecan Pie - YUM
Chai Tea - Not as good as I'd hoped - needs more spice!
Lemon Zest - Okay

My ABSOLUTE favorite so far is Chocolate Nut Brownie... with Chocolate Peppermint Stick a close second.

Cherry-Covered Chocolate-Yum! One of my favorites!
Chocolate Pecan Pie-Not impressed, ok, but not great
Chocolate Peppermint Stick-THE BEST! My absolute favorite!
Cookies & Cream-Didn't taste at all like Oreos, very disappointing
Dulce de Leche-Yummy, not a favorite but still good
Key Lime Pie-Another favorite! Tangy & sweet at the same time
Lemon Zest-A lot like Key Lime Pie, love it too!

I don't know if anyone has posted this elsewhere, but I came across a new Luna bar flavor the other day. It is peanut butter cookie. I liked it, although it didn't seem to have much taste. But it was still not too bad.
