Insomnia issues...

I went to a sleep specialist last night to get the results of my sleep study.

Oh boy! I found out that I don't reach stage 3 and 4 of sleep and pretty much just stay in stage 2. For those of you who don't know sleep-talk that's VERY, VERY BAD! That explains why I am always exhausted when I wake up and throughout the day. It's because I literally do not get any sleep.

My boyfriend was floored when I told him as he thought I just needed to "relax" and I'd be able to sleep. he said he'll never bug me about me too tired again.

Anyhow, the neurologist wants to do an MRI to figure out what in my brain isn't letting me get the sleep that I need. No biggie, it's a harmless test.

He gave me a prescription for a sleeping pill. I took 1/2 a dose last night and I did sleep. But when I woke up this morning I was a huge zombie. I still am PLUS it set of a pretty bad IBS attack. I won't be taking that little pill again. No thanks.

I'm kinda discouraged as I didn't expect this insomnia thing to be such a big deal.

Well that just sucks. There is no other way to say it.
I am sorry you are so tired and I can relate!!! I am going to be takling to my doc about my sleep issues on tuesday!!!
i am the same way. When I do fall asleep I still wake up tired and drained. I am always tired. I have been like this for awhile. To be honest I thought I was just lazy. That is what alot of people have said becuse I fall alseep alot during the day and some days have no energay to do anything.
It was getting better but the last few weeks it has gotten bad again. Now I think I may have a sleep problem. This all started after a bout of mono when I was 18. It swept through my highschool. about 19 people got it. It knocked me on my butt for two weeks. i have had a problem with being tired every since. I don't know if it is a quniki dink or not.

Sorry to ramble. I just woke up from a two hour nap. Kenna and I both passed out watching tv!!!!
I hope you get some help soon. To bad about the sleeping pill. Mine dosen't bother me, but it seems to only let me get a few hours sleep then I am awake the rest of the night
Good Luck

I wish I had good advice or suggestions or something, but I don't... so I'll just hope that they figure out the problem and medicate it appropriately (and without any more IBS problems!) as quickly as possible. Not sleeping sucks.

No wonder you get so wiped out! Ask for Ambien- Jen swears by itand it's supposed to be better than some for less daytime drowsiness.

I'm so sorry you're having all this trouble! I don't have any suggestions but it sounds like your Dr. is trying to get to the bottom of it. Hopefully, he'll be able to prescribe something else that will help you get some rest.

At least you now know why you're so tired and your boyfriend understands and can help you out some.

I hope you feel better soon!

I'm so sorry that you are going through this right now. I am a fellow insomnia sufferer and I hate being wide awake when every one else is asleep. My insomnia attacks usally like to hit around 2 or 3 in the morning. On a typicle night I'll go to sleep OK and wake up in the middle of the night (usually to use the bathroom) and then just not be able to go back to sleep for hours... when I do fall asleep I usually only have about an hour before it's time to get up again for the day. I AM ALWAYS TIRED.
(I have to say though that my insomnia attacks have been less frequent since I started Heather's diet.)
OK you're probably waiting for me to get to the point... I decided to take the advice of one of my college proffessors and not waste time trying to fall back asleep. I'll get up and go into the living room to read or work on a craft projects (the condition of my scrap books are in direct proportion to the frquency and length of my insomnia attacks). I drink a cup of hot chamomile and eventually ... very eventually ... I go back to sleep.
I hope you feel better soon. And if you're up late at night... Check the IBS board... I'll probably be the only other one on line. Hope you have a good night.

Insomnia... I've been having the exact opposite problem... I can't get enough sleep. I'm exhausted all the time, it's terrible. My father suggested maybe it's lack of iron; I've been following the diet for almost 3 months now & I've been feeling extremely tired for almost a week. I'm hoping the supplements will help, but these last couple days that I have been taking them, my somewhat regulated system has been a little off.
I guess the body goes from one extreme to the other... no happy medium!

Tina,

As a fellow lifelong poor sleep sufferer, I think the news from the doc is kind of GOOD news. At least it's not all "in your head," you know?

I hope the doc finds some answers for you!

Hi Christine,

Yes, I was VERY happy to hear that I actually have a sleep disorder and I'm not just too stressed out to sleep.

What do you do when you can't sleep?

I kinda have that problem too. I don't sleep so I am tired all the time. Even on weekends when I get 10 hours of sleep I am still tired.
