HI Beaglelover-
Do you absolutely love Beagles? We have two Great Danes!! And.. a cocker spaniel.
Anyway, thanks for the support!
It's funny, I kept thinking I was crazy when I would feel so awful on Atkins diet. I got sick on it summer 2003 and only started again this year (5 weeks ago) and have been so much worse again. My husband kept saying it was the Atkins making me sick and I was determined to lose weight, so I ignored it.
I thought it was just my not wanting to be on the diet. I finally thought if I could change one part of my pain in my life- I need to investigate more. I found this site and knew right away the Atkins was making me so much worse. I'd eat cheese at night for a snack and almost die from the diarrhea the next AM. I'd like to wake up one day and not feel this way. I had surgery in Aug and took Darvocett for the pain. I couldn't believe it. I told my husband that was the best I'd felt (with regard to my IBS) in ages. The naroctics constipate). Is that bad or what?
Anyway, I am rambling.
Thanks so much for your support! Have great weekend!
Cynthia

HI LauraSue,
Thanks for writing! I am so glad that the IBS diet helped you. I read it all and thought "Wow! This makes sense."
My Mom also has fibro and IBS-C. I am sending the diet to her, though don't know if she do it. She is more stubborn than I and old habits die hard. She hardly eats at all and is almost crippled by the fibro. He back, legs, feet are so bad that she can hardly walk (She is 65).
I get some bad eating habits from her. I don't eat and have typically filled my energy needs with soda, tea, and no food until a little dinner and a bagel late at night (with cream cheese). No one, even the Drs seem to believe that I am not a chronic overeater- My family says I barely ingest enough to feed a bird. I have my metabolism so low from not eating and gain my only energy from sugary soda. I thought maybe the Aktins could pull me out of that. I have always been a fruit and vegy eater and besides those- rice, potatoes, cheese and eggs made up my growing up diet. (I ate no meat). Now, I can't tolerate the eggs or cheese, which I love, and bought into the THOUGHT that carbs were BAD!
There is hope in sight, at least for the IBS part. I can see that now! How great is that!

Thanks for writing! Keep your great progress up!
Cynthia

HI!
Thank you so much for your suggestions! I apprecaite it!
How did you get used to no butter? Was that not a problem for you? I hardly eat food- lots of soda (carbonation) and I love salad with oil and vinegar. I love all fruit. I do love butter though- on bread, on rice, on potatoes...
Do you lose that taste, or is it just that the will to survive is stronger than the want for butter (or soda, or anything else that is a trigger)?
I love pasta too- with tomato sauce, or with lots of vegys saute'd in chicken broth.
I know, with my other pains and health problems, that I can't go on like this. If I can fix the IBS- that's one less thing to deal with- if I can lose the weight and feed my body- I know my back and fibro will be better. The migraines will always be (I have had them daily for 13 years now- even when I was thin, active, exercising daily- and generally healthy)< but I do know that they have only worsened as my physical condition has worsened.
People tell me that my head is going to hurt whether I am doing "nothing" (chasing 4 little boys is NOT nothing!) or whether I am working out. (Anyone out there tried working out with a migraine and other pains at the same time?)
I know that if I can start losing weight with diet and control the IBS, that the "Working-out" part will come!
Than ks for listening and for the great tips!
Cynthia

HI Kim!
Thanks so much for the encouragement!
I hope this will help- one thing under control (the iBS) will help other health issues, I know.
If I can lose weight- by actually eating- half my battles will be won. You say that you eat "all day" I have a problem with making myself eat at all. I have (for the past 6-7 years) found my energy (what little I have) in grabbing a soda. I don't eat breakfast or lunch and just a little dinner. I would usually eat a bagel with cream cheese before bed. I run around after my 4 little boys ( two in school now- one of these just started this year- 2 home all day) and I never seem to have the time or energy ("excuses," I am told) to make myself eat. I make them homemade pancakes for breakfast (which I love, but I never end up eating, because after cooking everything and cleaning up, it's time for school and taking care of their needs and taking care of the dogs, the bills, the house.. . and so forth.
Doing the Atkins I was trying to force down their "Shakes" a couple times a day, even though I know that I can't tolerate milk.
Anyway, thanks for listening and support
Cynthia

You're welcome, Cynthia Anne!

BTW, one of the most important parts of the IBS Diet is frequent small meals. Skipping breakfast or lunch is DEADLY! I would suggest that as the starting place for you. Even if it's just one of those pancakes you make your family. If you don't put food in your tummy, it gets VERY cranky!

Good luck and keep coming back. (Oh, and I could NEVER work out with a migraine!)

HI
Thank you so much for the info. I feel so lousy right now, that I am not worried about what I eat for a few days- just to kind of recoup from the Atkins diet thing.
I was working out everyday up until about 6 years ago, when my son two came. I felt so much better- still had horrible headaches daily, but I was functionable and healthy in body and spirit. The fibro was detected about 5 years ago and the thoracic outlet syndrome was found in mid 2000 (right after my 3rd son came). I didn't have back problems til after my 4th son's birth just a couple years ago. And my IBS wasn't present much until the past couple years- primarily the past year. Every year, it seems- another illness. I know losing the weight will help my back and the fibromyalgia and even my thoracic outlet.
I think I can do this- just have to watch the butter ( I love butter). The actual milk (including ice cream! has made me so miserable for the past year that I have stayed away mostly. Recently, I have been so bad with cheese & eggs, that I just backed off from them in the past couple weeks.
I know though that I can do this- then it'll be one thing under control- I am sure of it!
Take care
Cynthia
