I started on 10mg of Lexapro the end of May it took about 2 weeks to get used to it. But I felt so much better.... I also started my new diet (new way of life) and going to the gym at the same time. About a month or so into if I notice the libido issue.... so, Dr cut me back to 5mg per day thinking IF that even helped it would be better then going OFF and trying another since they will ALL effect the libido to some extent.... I did really well on 5mg but the libido is still a MAJOR issue for both Shane & I.

Actually I JUST talked to my Dr TODAY on the phone about going off of them to see how I do...thinking HOPEFULLY the new way of life and exercise are REALLY the reason I'm feeling so much better and not the pill. We will see. I will be taking only 5mg Wed, Fri, & Sun and then I will stop and see how I do. If I have tummy issues he wants me to JUMP right back on the 5mg per day. He said it should take about a week for it to be out of my system and IF I'm going to have problems it more then likely would happen within 2-3 weeks.

I wanted to do this ASAP so I still have time to start back up if needed BEFORE Fall Sprawl.

Great news Shell! I don't want to scare or upset you, not at all! But, I was on Lexapro for almost a year and had a HELL of a time stopping it! I had the worlds worst headache, and I don't get headaches for 2 weeks straight! I had a really hard time adjusting, I had major shakes and felt terrible. I was so paranoid, I could hardly leave the house. Now, I have been on many different AD's and I'm currently on zoloft (which I feel kills the libido worse, not good when trying to get pregnant! ) so I really do think I have a chemical imbalance or something and just really need to be on a AD. It sounds like you are much more "balanced" than I am without the meds so hopefully, you will do just fine! Just wanted to let you know, just as there is a getting used to it period, it goes the same why when you stop it!!

Congradulations on the healthy new life style and all the weight you have lost, your looking wonderful!

Thank Michele for the heads up.... the libido is the BIGGEST reason I'm going off of it.... I think I'm lucky that I have only been taking 5mg so it will not be such a SHOCK to the system...but I may be wrong.

Shane asked last night...."Your not gonna get all weird like when you started are ya?" LOL I said, "I hope not! "

Good for you. I was on this last year and although it helped me "even out" at first, I just was so passionless about everything...including you know what.

When I went off, I had serious vertigo which lasted about a week. Was still able to work and stuff, it just felt a little like being drunk.

You will be amazed at how you feel once you are off. I enjoyed feeling the full brunt of both happiness and anger, two emotions I had sort of lost on the pill.

You know I had the same problem (low libido) with Lexapro. I'm at 20mg. Six months now...but when I spoke with my doctor, she had me start Wellbutrin (150mg) with Lexapro. For some people Wellbutrin increases your sexual libido. For me it actually made it go back to normal. You may want to ask your doctor about Wellbutrin.

Yeah, I hear ya.... it felt odd sometimes...I would notice that if certain things happened 6 months ago I would be freaking out... yet, I was so calm.

Oh... I've never hear of that one.

Hum... I see my Dr again the end of Oct but I can always call him. As of now...I'm doing ok without any AD at all.... and my sex drive is slowly coming back as he told me it would. I was only taking 5mg Lexapro for about 1-1/2 to 2 months....and he really did not think that me going off it would cause a problem.

HE is convinced that my change in diet & exercise are the real reason I started feeling so good IBS wise. See I started taking Lexapro about 3-4 days after I started at the gym.... so it is hard to really tell if it was the pills that were helping.... so due to low sex drive I decreased from 10mg ot 5mg but I felt no difference.

So, we are both hoping that I don't really need an AD!! BUT, I'm NOT agaist going back on one in adition to other sex drive assistance if my tummy gets grumpy again. I'll give it a good month to let me body adjust.

Thanks everyone for there imput!!

p.s. off to work, no time to spell check...LOL

I am taking Lexapro right now, it is definitely causing problems with the sex drive. I am afraid to quit taking it because it is one of the few Anti's that I am doing great on except for the above mentioned. Have you taken anything else that did not affect your sex drive?

I miss talking to you, I have been very busy (a very good thing for me) and have not been on the boards lately. Tell Shane HI for me.

No Lexapro is the only one that I've taken but my Dr told me that they ALL would to some extent. Good luck...talk to your doc about other options... I think someone above mentioned ADDING Wellbitrum (sp?) to help with the sex drive.

Miss you too....I've been very busy myself...I don't get nearly as much time on the boards as I'd like.

I have the same problem Gigi. I'm taking Zoloft, and have been for a few months now, and I have had NO sex drive since day 1. My doctor wants to keep me on it though for a year. Fun year!

I take many meds, I am never sure which one could be causing the problems. I def. believe it is Lexapro this time. We keep a bottle of K-Y Warming Lotion by the bed, it sure is a great helper when we need a little coaxing. Sometimes I remember and ask what would we do without that great little treat?? We've been married going on 30 years, thats when you have to try a lot of different things to keep the spark alive. And honey, we love that KYWL, its a good thing too!

love to ya, gayla
