Hi I just got back from an appt with my GI doc & he gave me a prescription for Zelnorm. I did a search & read some frightening stuff about it. Could anyone who's ever taken this share their experience. It was a choice between this or zoloft & my doc said we should try this first (I was afraid of AD's) thanks in advance Meryl

No opinion on the Zelnorm as I'm a D, but don't be afraid of AD's. They really work on lots of things including IBS. It's not just for depression anymore. It's just another med.

Zelnorm worked ok for me but losses its effectivness very quickly! Don't be suprised if you get some D the first few times you take it, that should go away. Do a broad search on Zelnorm on this board and you will find lots of info! I agree, don't be afraid of the AD's, my opinion, they will probably be a better long term solution than Zelnorm.

I took zelnorm at one time and I loved it!! It didn't ever stop working and I used it for about 5 months straight! It never caused me D either. Everyone is different. Good luck!!

Hi Doe, so how come you stoped taking it? Did your doctor make you stop or you just didn't need it anymore? Are you taking anything now?

I've been on Zelnorm going on 5 weeks. It's been a big help to me. My GI wants me to take it for two more months. Then we'll go from there.

Hi,
I tried Zelnorm twice--for a few weeks each time, if memory serves.
The first time it did nothing: nothing good and nothing bad.I felt like I was taking a placebo.
The second time it caused some cramps or nausea (can't remember which).
Nothing at all frightening happened to me, and I'm extremely drug-sensitive.
Also: if you don't like it, you can stop taking it. You're not locked in!
