I have just became aware that I have IBS (after months of pain and frustration) I seem to have more attacks when I am PMS-ing and on my menstral cycle. Is this common , does anyone else here experience this?

Yup... unfortunately, this is VERY common. I think there might even be some information about this in the research library... you might want to take a look, if you're curious. (Link's across the top of the page.)
Welcome, by the way!

That is when my problems are more intense. I believe that this is very common.

thank you for your responses , it nice to know that I'm not the only one. This IBS thing can get a little frustrating to me. I'm 20 , and after months of mis-diagnoses (first my doc thought it was traveler's d, then some other bacteria, ) and taking meds that make me feel like crap (no pun intended ) He finally said IBS. And being 20 and in college , this IBS is really a pain in the ass to deal with.

Yes, this happens to me every month. I get painful cramping and D. I have been taking one Immodium as a preventative and one Midol (caffinee free) right before I get it and it works great!!!

Just for your information, there are quite a few people on the message boards who are either in college or who have recently graduated (myself included). In the last few months there have been a number of posts related to dealing with IBS in college (I should know since I posted most of the questions myself ). You can do a search of previous posts by using the link at the top of the page. If you still have any questions after reading those posts, feel free to ask since I'm sure there's at least one other person who's had the same problem. Good luck!

Yep me too! Another IBS'r that is hormonally related. I wish these darn women hormones didn't cause so many problems! BTW I was 21 when I was first diagnosed. Not to discourage you but I'm 37 now and still have it. You definitly learn how to manage it. Being in college must be tough. I bet you know where every bathroom is . It stinks I know but IBS is now a part of your life and if you learn to go with it, you learn to accept it. Good luck and welcome
