Hi everyone. I hope I am doing this right. Today is the first time I have ever posted to anything except telephone polls (ha ha). I wrote Heather an email and she asked me to tell everyone how I got Family Medical Leave from my employer. In the last year I lost more than $15,000 in wages because of this syndrome. My doctor wrote a letter about 2 years ago explaining that I would be missing a lot of work and I didn't have annual leave or sick leave because I had used it up. Anyway, FMLA leave is without pay. Where I work you have to use all your sick leave, but you can save 80 hours of annual leave without using it for those famous IBS days. FMLA also means that your employer cannot hold it against you if you are out of work for days on end. They can't hold your work load against you either. Right now, I am on my 2nd week out of work because of this last flare-up. You only have, I think, 480 hours per year that you can use for FMLA. I am closing in or I have already exhausted that amount for this year. Don't know what I will do after that. I have exhaused all my savings and am wondering about how I will pay my rent in March. There is lots more info on the web about FMLA. Any questions I would be glad to answer. My director and my supervisor are continually harassing me over my work hours. Right now I work 6:30 to 3p.m. M-F and they want to change it to 7:00 to 3:30 p.m. You know what a long comute to and from work does to us. It sends us right over the edge because we are scared and stressed out that we won't make it to our destination without a "problem." I am definitely going to my union and possibly Civil Rights to get these people to stop harrasing me about this. If anyone else has any info on this I would really appreciate it. Have a great day. Kathy - why can't you go on Social Security Disability or State Disability? Visit your local Ss office or better yet, call them, and ask them to mail you the brochure on social security disability. You sound like you have enough hours and wages to be eligible. Age doesn't matter. My husband is on it right now until he gets better. He's self-employed and that doesn't make a difference. Your bosses sound like jerks. Let me know what happens. Good Luck.

Hi SharonMello: I found out that not a single person in the State of Washington has ever been given SSI disability because of IBS. Strange, huh. The fact that the general public and lots of dr's, too, think this is all in our heads. Thank God my doctor isn't one of them. Even if I was qualifed at some later date, I am single and live alone. Wouldn't have any money to pay rent until the payments started coming. I have asked my HR dept. if the long term disability that I pay for would work--they have ignored the question completely. I appreciate your reply and will check again with Soc. Sec. in a few weeks.
Does anyone else have any info?
