Okay...this is the second time I've tried to make these things and I just can't seem to get the hang of it.
I started by putting the marshmellows in a pot on the stove but maybe I had the burner up too high cuz they started to burn at the bottom.
SO..I removed them from the pot, put them in a huge bowl and microwaved them instead. Then I added the oil.
I added the cocoa powder and they were really fluffy and light.
As soon as I started adding the rice krispies the marshmellow started to stiffen and were really hard to mix.
I ended up with marshmellow all over me and some really sorry looking RKT's.
I don't think I added enough rice krispies cuz it's really marshmellowy...but the marshmellows were too stiff to mix in anymore!!
is there anything I'm doing wrong??

Kimm, you need to use a DOUBLE BOILER! Honey, don't put it directly on the heat! Really, the best thing of all is the microwave; it melts perfectly. Just do it in segments. 30 seconds, then stir it well, then 30 seconds more, stir, etc., until you have a completed melted mass.
Don't give up -- they're worth it. And, once you get it down pat (ouch), you'll be able to whip 'em up in nothing flat! (Ouch again.) Damn, I'm on a roll!

Have you tried doing it with marshmellow fluff? I hear you can use that and it might be easier.
Has anyone done this? I was thinking about giving it a go as I can't eat normal marshmellows but rice crispy treats sound yummy.

I LOVE THIS STUFF! When I was a little girl, my brothers and I used to swim in the lake all day long. Our mother would scream at us to come out and eat something. We'd rush into the kitchen, dripping wet, grab the marshmallow fluff, slap a couple huge handfuls onto some white bread, stuff it in our pie holes as fast as we could, and zoom back outside to the lake. GREAT FUN!
Yeah, I don't know why you can't use the fluff stuff. Only thing is, it's kinda expensive -- you'd need several jars. It's so easy to mike it, really, just like you do water for your acacia tea. Well, not JUST like it, but you know, every 30 seconds, no biggie...
Hmm.... marshmallow fluff, eh? Hmmm.....

Mmm, I love Fluff! I haven't had it in YEARS, but I have great childhood memories of it too. My friends and I used to go sledding in my backyard, and when we came in my mom always made us hot cocoa and served it with Fluff! Plus once in a while I'd get a PB and Fluff sandwich as a treat... looking back it sounds kind of gross, but I loved it!

So if you have some laying around... does it tell you how to make Rice Krispy Treats with them (and they still don't sound gross to me either. ) ?

Kim, I like to make mine in the microwave. Get a large plastic bowl and put your marshmallows and oil in there. Heat for 30sec, wthen take them out and give the mashmallow a stir; continue heating in the microwave and stirring until the marshmallows are smooth. Then take them out, stir in the cocoa until it is all blended, and then stir in the cereal. You do have to act pretty fast to make sure hte marshmallows do not get hard.
Hope that helps! Good luck!
