Steph is right. Restaurant pancakes are some of the most dangerous foods to eat when going out. They were also my favorites, so it took me a while to give them up, but I finally decided it wasn't worth the risk. When you go out for breakfast it's much safer just to get toast, oatmeal (make sure you specify that they don't use dairy), or dry cereal (you can bring your own little box of soy or rice milk). Believe me, I know it's a bummer because I used to adore going out for breakfast, but breakfast is just about the toughest meal to eat out for. And Steph is right, there are so many great things you can make at home, so just remind yourself that when you consider going to IHOP!

Hi Shirl,

I'm with you, Girl -- I too love ihop. Their coffee is THE BEST COFFEE IN THE WORLD! No kidding; I used to buy their ground coffee beans by the bag-full to make at home. It's just absolutely incredible coffee. However -- those "good ole days" are over forever.

Their pancakes are fabulous also. I can't make them as good at home. But you must know what's gotta be in them -- they are, after all, BUTTERMILK pancakes! And they serve you a LOT, and they're absolutely HUGE. I'm amazed that anyone can eat one serving in one sitting.

Hubby and I like to go to ihop; it's a treat for us, and I don't want to deny either of us that enjoyment. So, when we go, we always order ONE meal and split it. I give him the sausage and eggs, and I take the pancakes.

I order the PUMPKIN pancakes and ask them to hold the butter and syrup. While I don't know what's in them, I do believe they replace the buttermilk with pumpkin. The pumpkin pancakes are so good -- very sweet -- and do not need any butter or syrup AT ALL, so I eat them plain.

I do not order coffee; I ask for hot water and pull out my "Tummy Mint" tea bags.

While it's not your usual bill-of-faire, I leave there with a not-too-full tummy, and I don't have any problems afterwards. However, I really limit my fat for the rest of the day (because, as I said, I don't know what they put in those pancakes besides pumpkin).

Hope this helps.

Bev.
