I can't eat milk chocolate because of the milk (whole milk is used in that). I can't eat too much dark chocolate because it has milk solids (but less milk than in milk chocolate) and then there's the caffeine. There's not much caffeine, but I can't tolerate it much at all. From what I understand, there are also some other things in chocolate that can "rev up" the system. I can't tolerate much of anything that acts as a stimulant.
That's not to say I don't eat dark chocolate! I just have to be verrrrry careful to have some soluble fiber first, and only have a teeny little bit. I am developing MARVELOUS restraint!
By the way, I'm starting a chocolate company- we'l be online soon. My sugar-free chocolate is amazing! (I have a few diabetic friends and relatives who LOVE it!) It's really fudgy, not bland and tasteless... Keep searching! It's not all bad. Have you tried Godiva??? Can't imagine anything they make is bad! If you can't find it, check in at thechocolateofthemonth.com in a few months-- I'll have sugar-free chocolates for sale!

Ack! I just had a heart attack! If you've never met Godiva, you've been missing out! It's a brand of chocolates from Belgium, but they're also produced here in the US. They're really good. We have stores in the malls around here.... Hmmm... Godiva.com. They've got a store locater, too: Boutique Locator. Nice quality chocolates. They're pricey, but totally worth it as a splurge!

OMG! Gerry, you've never met Godiva? OMG! Honey, I'm sorry, but with your diabetes, you don't want to -- forget this -- Godiva is dog poop.
