You can replace butter with canola oil. Depending on the size of the recipe you are making, 3/4 cup of oil may be a lot. In that case, you can substitute half oil, half applesauce (or you could do 1/2 cup applesauce, 1/4 cup oil).

I always thought that when you were replacing butter with oil you use only 3/4 the amount of oil. Example-1 cup butter for 3/4 cup oil. Because of the liquid it will add to the recipe.

You actually substitute 7/8ths as much oil as butter. Since that's not always easy to figure out, I just use slightly less. If you only use 3/4ths as much, your product would probably come out dry.
