Ok, so I have an ice cream maker and searched for easy recipes for non dairy ice cream. They all have weird ingredients I don't have (like gelatin, apple juice, arrowroot, etc...) So I took the regular ice cream recipe, modified it and got an AMAZING ice cream: I mixed: 1 cup almond milk (vanilla) 3/4 cup sugar
then I added 2 cups of soy creamer 1 teaspoon of vanilla
Put it in the ice cream maker for 20 min Last 5 min added chopped non dairy choco chips
I could eat all of it. It thickened nicely and the almond gives it a unique flavor even my husband loved. (As he ate his fattening real strawberry ice cream!)
Give this a try, it's quite yummy!! And you can mix in anything during those last 5min. I think next time I'll do cookies and make cookies and cream. YUM!

Your soy ice cream sounds heavenly, but where do you find soy creamer? I've never seen it. Would Whole Foods have it? ALso, do you have an electric ice cream maker and was it very expensive?

HI, I found my soy creamer at my grocery store-- Kroger and I've seen it at Giant Eagle. I'd be almost sure that Whole Foods has it as well. I do have an electric machine, but it was a wedding gift, so I don't know how expensive it was... but so worth it! I love it and use it so often now!

I got mine at around 50$ It is worth it if you use it of course, mine mostly sits there. But I have made wonderful mango sorbet, orange sherbert, lemon ice and a pudding ice cream. Yum.

I paid around 40 dollars for mine. Its a Wolfgang Puck brand and I got it from the Home Shopping Network website: www.hsn.com I will say though that it says it takes 25-30 minutes to make the icecream, and it definitly takes longer than that. Oh well... my strawberry sorbet turned out very yummy!!

I just bought Silk soy creamer at Whole Foods yesterday. I got Original but I noticed they also had it in Hazelnut and French Vanilla flavors - raises some interesting thoughts about future ice creams.
Apparently Wildwood makes a soy creamer also although I haven't seen it anywhere. And for those who don't do soy, here's a link about an almond and cashew-based cream. It looks like you can order it on-line.
I have a Hamilton Beach ice cream maker, model 68220. I've only used it once but it worked like a charm. It took about 25 minutes for it to make ice cream. The only drawback is that the cylinder bowl has to go in the freezer with its handle on which is kind of awkward.
I bought mine for about $30 over the Internet from Target . When I bought it they were having a free shipping special which doesn't seem to be the case any longer.
You can also check my vegan ice cream post for tips on making ice cream without an ice cream maker.
HTH.
