It's cold and rainy here. Not expected to let up. What is your favorite fall recipe?

I can't pick just one:

Kree's Crockpot Chicken Stew
MCV's Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes
My Norwegian Apple Pan Pie

I always think of soups this time of year:

The Manhattan Clam Chowder in EFI
Kree's Greek Chicken Soup
Kree's Baked Potato Soup

Oo. That crockpot stew sounds great. I will make it this weekend. Looking at Recipezaar I noticed a couple of folk thought it was bland, but I tell you what, I couldn't believe the flavor that rutabaga added to a dish the first time I had a stew with those tossed in. Definitely going to hunt down some fall root veggies for this.

Oh, no, it's not bland at all. (m) new

I do think that - like most stews - it tastes much better the next day, so I try to make the day (or night) before I plan to eat it. It also makes great lunches.

It's cooking right now. Sure smells good. I bought turnips and a rutabaga for it too. I know that rutabaga sure adds a "spicey" flavor to soup and stew. I was amazed the first time a college roomate threw some in her beef stew. Very distinctive and pleasant. I chopped up the extra turnip, potatos and rutabaga and froze them. I'm thinking they might be really good on a cold day cooked and mashed up like mash potatos.

very good. I used white pepper and a bit more than called for and some very fresh paprika, so with the rutabaga it has quite a bite! I do think I would add two tsp. of worcestershire sauce next time. I found I had to add a couple of drops to the bowl to give it just that extra bit of depth. It would really be missing its character without the rutabaga though! Very "fall flavored"!! The chicken is soooooo tender. Really nice and unusual.
