Does it take a week or two? I hate waiting for them to get ripe. I hade tons of fruit flys! So I put them in the fridge and they turned black in a week and a half. However when I made banana bread it didn't turn out...so I think they weren't ripe! Just wondering how long everyone else lets them sit before using them in bread!!!
Thanks! Steph

I bought some last Sunday (11/2) that are just about getting there. And, were barely starting to turn yellow when I bought them. I will probably be making bread one night this week.

I hope I'm not giving you bad advice, but I've found that if I leave them in a plastic bag they seem to get ripe more quickly. Hopefully that doesn't adversely affect their taste at all. I've never noticed it to!

I've never heard plastic, but I have heard if you leave them in a paper bag they ripen faster. I'm sure it's doing the same thing. It has something to do with the gases they give off, they make them ripen faster? I think I've also heard if you throw an apple in there with them it makes it ripen even faster.
