Ok, I googled this and couldn't find an answer... maybe I'm just spastic this early in the morning, but who knows.
Anyway, I know that the shelf life of a jar of tahini is about a month after you open it, but what about an UNopened jar? I have a huge unopened jar of the stuff in my pantry, and it's a couple months past the sell-by date. Anyone know if it's ok to use?

Honestly, I keep opened jars around forever. My mom stock piles the unopened jars in the garage for a looong time. I don't think the stuff expires. I just asked my mom, and this was her response: "i don't like to keep anything more that 3 yrs, unopened , of course." So, there ya go. You should be fine. Treat it like any other vegetable oil -- if it smells rancid, chuck it.

i agree with everyone else: it sounds fine, especially since it's just a couple months past sell-by, and i doubt they'd expect you to use a huge jar in two months; and damn that new picture is smokin.

I should have just directed the question to you in the first place... I knew you'd have the perfect answer for me. Thanks! It's one of those dumb situations where I've always bought tahini in a smallish can and used it up pretty quickly... this time all I could get was a big honkin' jar, and it's all separated and strange-looking. But I'll crack it open and give it a sniff. Thanks!

Thanks!
I felt like a little something different. Really different. LOL! I don't have the full picture anymore, but if you go up and look at the reply I'm about to post to Jaime, you can see another picture from the same day. You might get a kick out of it.

Thanks - on both counts!
...and like I'm going to pass on an opportunity to show off a little. Heh. I don't have the full version of my picture anymore, but this is another one taken the same day. And in case you're wondering what's up with the turban, I was keeping my hair out of my face when I bellydance.

Don't worry about it being separated. It's just natural for the solids to settle at the bottom and the oil to float on top. Give it a good stir and you'll be fine.

(OK, so this has nothing to do with tahini -- or recipes -- shhhh)
Casey -- how is belly-dancing? Is it good exercise? I've always wanted to try it. Of course now I don't want my belly shown 'cause of all the surgical scars but I really need to do some kind of exercise besides my PT stretches, and my options are pretty limited right now.

I'm only a very very beginning bellydancer, so I'm far from being an authority on it or anything. I can tell you that it CAN be a good low-impact exercise, and it's fun once you get the hang of it. It's never going to be a really intense workout, like tae-bo or weights or anything like that, so if your ultimate goal is body-shaping or weight loss, you might want to eventually go with something more strenuous. But if you're looking for something to just get you moving, I'd say it's about the same degree of exercise as yoga.
You don't have to bare your belly. I sure don't. I'm a little too self-conscious about my belly roll, haha. But if the idea of being in a class gives you the willies even with a covered belly, consider trying a video at home. Basic Dance with Neena and Veena is the one I'm starting with, and it's pretty good.

I made them! Of course, with the stretched ears, I can't wear normal earrings... so I made the beaded parts and then hung them off CBRs. And then I was like... duh... why didn't I think of this years ago? Heh.

I'm still wearing my tapers that I used to stretch them with, as I can't fit into the plugs I bought.
Gorgeous stone, very nice and lightweight...but the wrong size on the package! Go figure.
I'm currently a 0, I plan on having 00s soon.

#1- Casey you need to pursue photgraphy PROFESIONALLY!!!! You are damned good. Do you know that stock art web sites buy photgraphs (digital) from amateurs and professionals for money. I considered selling some of my stuff ages ago. I'l look it up and try to find the site. This could be a way to make yourself some money! $$$
#2- LOVE the turban! Reminds me of my Kundalini yoga teacher. She wore one. Bellydancing -- so cool. If you were taller, you'd be a perfect model! Very photogenic with all those angels on your face!
#3- You're so cool, hope we meet one day.
