How much ground oregano would equal 1 tsp dried? I'm guessing maybe 1/4 tspn?
It's for a white chili recipe I found. Looks to be safe. I will post it later this weekend if it doesn't hurt me.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the white chili recipe works. I tried some White Bean and Chicken Chili during my trip and loved it. It was restaurant food, so I'm not sure what was in it (I was very, very - shall we say "casual"? - about my eating while I was away), but it was fabulous. I hope yours comes out yummy!

Cos dried is typically stronger flavoured so you need more fresh to get the same taste. And 1 tsp is 1/3 Tbsp, so I'd say about a tablespoon of fresh.

The recipe calls for dried organo. I have ground dried on hand.

Quote:
Here are some approximate amounts of different forms of herbs equivalent to each other: 1 tablespoon finely cut fresh herbs 1 teaspoon dried leafy herbs 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground dried herbs
So your original estimate sounds right: 1/4 tsp of ground dried for 1 tsp of dried. I'd probably go up to 1/2 teaspoon of ground, but I love oregano.
