I got up to make my Pulled chicken. Got it all ready to cook and then, to my horror, discovered that I used a tomato paste that was "Garlic Roasted" flavor!!!!!!!! Now, I had already added the dry garlic, so of course I'm worried that I OD on garlic which I'm scared of anyhow. Then, the can lists tomato puree, High fructose corn syrup (number 2 ingredient!), veggie oil, roasted garlic spices, garlic powder, olive oil, and citric acid and natural flavor. How many triggers can you find in this product! It has oil (fat), garlic and more garlic, high fructose corn syrup, plus the garlic I added. I through the whole thing out! I had already mixed the chicken in and everything. How disappointing. But then I think, I can't throw away 1 pound of chicken and I won't have time to make this again for a whole week.
So, I take it all out of the plastic garbage bag I dumped it in, rinsed the crock pot out, and rinsed the chicken in cool water for about 3 or 4 minutes. I then remade the sauce with the correct, plain tomato paste...containing just tomato puree. Do you think this is safe? I still added the dry garlic (only 1/4 tsp) but the chicken was still a reddish color like it had absorbed the previous paste and oil and fructose. I don't know if I should still through it out or if it will be okay...or if I will get sick when I eat it because of my anxiety over what "might" still be in there through absorption. The chicken was still slightly tinted red...so obviously not pure.
Any thoughts? I don't ever eat anything with high fructose corn syrup, and the oil added 3 grams of fat or so. Maybe I should just dump it for piece of mind.
Thanks for all suggestions!

I would go ahead and make it anyway. I don't think the chicken could absorb enough of the trigger ingredients to make you sick. I understand how you feel about the worrying about it making you sick... making you sick. Just try and think about all the time, effort and money you put into the meal and make it and ENJOY it!! you deserve it

but any time I have mixed in anything tomato based that was wrong and tried to rinse away the mess, there was the red tinge.
Let me know how it turns out.
