Hey ladies. Just wanted to share a little victory with you. Normally going out to dinner for me is tough and boring because I play it safe. But I went to an organic tapas restaurant with some friends. You know, the small portions you share - had tofu with rice, zucchini pancakes, sweet potato empanadas (skipped the super cheesy pizza the girls ordered) and still felt brave enough to have a few small spoonfuls of bananas foster for dessert. -- no problems whatsoever with my tummy!! I've been eating like Heather recommends for almost 4 years now and I am doing better and better! Just wanted to share my happiness...

Tapas places of course have certain things to avoid, but there is so much to try. My favorite surprise hit was "boquerones," which are white anchovies marinated in vinegar. They usually also have tons of bread, which is great. The tortilla espanola is medium-safe. It is made with whole eggs, so if you are very sensitive to yolks steer clear ... but per serving there isn't much fat (usually, because of course this varies) and the potatoes provide a lot of sf. I have played around a lot at home and I managed to make a pretty decent tortilla espanola with just egg whites. I also made some very very decent croquetas with rice milk instead of real milk, and with bacos! They came out pretty good, so I'll post the recipe when I get a chance.
I did a semester in spain in college (thankfully pre-ibs) and I still get homesick for all the things I used to eat there!
Also, tapas places are great for portion control. If you are really stable and you want to cheat, it's easy to have just one bite of something, instead of negotiating with maybe a giant hunk of cheesecake someplace else!

Tortilla espanola? What is that exactly? I spent a week in Spain in college (studied in London) and kept eating this sort of potato-egg thing, sometimes served with tomatoes that was fantastic. (pre-ibs too, of course) wonder if it's the same thing...

Yup, the potato-egg thing is tortilla espanola!
