I was just curious as to how to make some easy tasty quick mashed potatoes. I have my inlaws coming to dinner tonight and I don't want to use instant. But my Father in law is picky so I want these to taste really good as if I used real milk in them. Any suggestions? Could I use chicken broth in them???? Oh and I am making Shell's famous turkey meatloaf which I already know is good.... Let's see what my dear father in law has to say!!!

I know you said you don't want to use instant, but Potato Buds are so good. Either way, if you use those or if you boil some potatoes and mash them up, you can definitely use chicken broth. I also like to add some ICBINB light, and I like to make a gravy using chicken broth and corn starch. Another thing to add is roasted garlic, if you can tolerate it. It makes your taters really yummy.

taters and garlic boiled together.. just one or 2 cloves... (or I squeeze in some roasted when its mash time) and chicken broth as the liquid... then pour it all in the blender or food processor if you want to puree them in a hurry.. or use a beater or masher as normal!
quick enough for me... but I hate instant flakes.. they never taste right...

I just mixed about a tablespoon of refried beans into my serving of mashed potatoes. I'm reverting back to my college days of looking in my fridge for two things which might go together. Well they were surprisingly delicious, and I think I might put refried beans in my mashed potatoes for the rest of my life. This may not be what you want to serve for your upcoming event, but I just wanted to remind you to think outside the box! Panda

I know this is a little late for your dinner tonight... I use plain Soy Silk (milk) and Smart Balance oleo and they are creamy and delish! My husband loves them, too.
I think I'll try the chicken broth--sounds yummy!

Thanks for all you suggestions guys! I will use them all in the future. I ended up making real mashed potatoes and making everyone else's with real milk and margarine. Mine I used chicken broth. They were really good!
