any suggestions... I make my own sauces but they all have either one or the other or both in it.... one of my coworkers is allergic to those 2 items... any suggestions on a way to make sauce he could eat? I am the only one bringing a main dish type thing to the potluck here at work (I volunteered because that way I was sure to be able to eat it!) its shredded bbq chicken with mini pitas (thanks for the idea Heather) or some sort of turkey or vegetarian chili... and I think it would be easier to make BBQ without those 2 then chili.. worst case I'll bring him a small thing of honey mustard chicken seperately... but I'd prefer to do just one dish with the house for sale and the possible move in progress at the same time.

Here's one that contains some garlic, but you can easily leave it out. It's very popular on another website.

Bobbie-Q Sauce
(Makes about 3/4 cup)

1/2 cup Heinz ketchup (the poster said it has to be Heinz!)
1/8 cup water (more or less for desired thickness)
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 cup sugar or honey (can use less to taste)
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard

Combine ingredients, bring to a boil and simmer over low heat for 5 minutes.

The poster says you can use this as a basting sauce for barbecue, or combine with chopped or shredded chicken and simmer until heated throughout and flavor is well through the meat. She usually adds just a bit of water, and simmers shredded meat for 30 minutes to an hour.

This is enough sauce for approximately 2 cups of loosely packed shredded meat.

Heinz has HFCS and I need ot be able to eat this too as it may be the only thing at the potluck I can eat.. I want to take Donald into consideration if I can- he's a good friend.. but no one seems to do that for me. though the person bringing fruit asked which types I could have to make sure she includes some.. so that will help a bit!

Isn't there any way you could just omit the garlic and onion from your sauces? Then you wouldn't have to go searching for a new one.

I may try it.. they are just a big part of the flavor punch since I dont' go for overly sweet, but I guess I could add more honey and less spices... or maybe try something completely different in the spice pack.. thanks for the reminder.

I can eat onions but not garlic. Is there any chance Donald could eat scallions? If so you could use scallions.
