MSG AND WHERE THEY HIDE IT!

My friends and fellow IBS'ers!
There is an enemy out there known as MSG and we need to limit as much as we can get. You may not be affected by MSG but it hits me like a train. Sadly, the federal government in the US has made no real attempts to notify the public of its presence and has actually allowed companies to use it under different names (The Bastards). For example, I decided that eating soyburgers and soyproducts by gardenburger would help me tremendously. Was I wrong! It turns out they all have "autolyzed yeast" which may have contain MSG. I guess the big question I should ask is, "How do you get a soybean to taste like a hamburger and make it safe for IBS?" Maybe I'm completely wrong but I want everyone to read for themselves at
www.truthinlabeling.org
Be careful what soy sauce you use because sometimes it is in there. I'm going to do more research on this and try to post as much as I can. As the wonderful Heather has pointed out, If we don't know if it is safe, we shouldn't eat it. Lots of luck! If you feel I'm way off base, please let me know. I would like to be as much in the know as possible.

Since you are new, just to let you know, I think this post could have gone on the IBS Diet board, not recipe board. Anyway, MSG needs to die. I have had migraine headaches since I was like eleven. And MSG is the biggest trigger, along with its friends, autolyzed yeast, nitrites and nitrates, carageenan, etc. I do not know if it upsets my IBS or not, because I have avoided it at all costs because of my migraines. If you do a search of the posts, you will find many other posts where people do say it bothers their IBS. And yes, its in everything, most prepackaged foods. You are going to have to learn to bake and cook. I make a bunch of safe food, and freeze it for the week. Then I have like my own prepackaged food, but I know its okay, because I made it myself.
