You can substitute it for shortening or oil at a ratio of 3 to 1 in baked goods. For example, 1 and 1/2 cups of flaxseed meal can replace 1/2 cup butter, margarine or cooking oil in recipes. (Product you are cooking does brown faster using flaxseed) My biggest concern since I am in such a flair with my IBS is the fat contents in flax. I would be very interested in knowing if Flaxseed is soluble or insoluble? Anyone know?
