I have a verrry active teenage daughter. She's a musician in her high school band, she's practicing to audition for all-state band in January, she's training to audition for feature twirler next season, she volunteers with me at an area nursing home, has all the homework that goes along with her honors classes, and she has IBS. Her physician perscribed Bentyl. That's it! No Diet reccomendations, no referrals, NOTHING but Bentyl. The side effects of that drug were so severe that she would almost never be able to take it and attend school. Her doctor did suggest we cut the dosage in half, for which we thank her, as that did offer some relief with the side effects, but did not eliminate them, or the dread of them. My daughter's symptoms had gotten to the level that I was very concerned that she would not be able to manage them during her band related activities, which would basically delete what she loves most from her life. I know my daughter, and for her, this would have spelled disaster. We found your web page in late July, 2004. She was to attend band camp 2 weeks later. I know that anyone reading this knows what that would mean for her! We are not the squeamish reluctant types, sooo we JUMPED RIGHT IN! We immediately ordered the books, bought the food, planned the menus and schedules, and started her new way of eating, with HIGH HOPES and LOTS of PRAYER! I drove one hour each way to camp every day, in order to get her meals to her. She could keep her breakfast with her, but the facilities did not provide for storing her other meals, nor were there safe alternatives on the camp menu. BUT HERE'S THE GREAAAAT NEWS!!! After putting your suggestions to the test in such extreme "IF THIS WORKS HERE, IT'LL WORK ANYWHERE" circumstances, MY DAUGHTER IS VIRTUALLY SYMPTOM FREE! PRAISE GOD!!! She has some minor symptoms from time to time, but we are starting Metamucil, and expect good results. She has her life back! She is now free to persue her music and her beloved twirling without dreading an attack. We are so confident in this that in training for feature twirler auditions, she has a new twirling instructor, gymnastics instructor, ballet class, AND private music lessons to prepare for all-state band auditions! THIS WORKS!! THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING GOD TO USE YOU IN THIS WAY.

That is so cool! And now your daughter knows how to control the IBS, she'll be set for life! If she wants to come chat herself, more than welcome!
Btw, taking a soluble fibre supplement daily helps with a lot of stuff life throws at us IBSers.

We're glad you found us. I have a degree in Music and taught high school music for a few years. I'm so glad your daughter is doing better. I can't imagine what it's like to have this in the teen years. I got my IBS in my early 20's. I remember how greatful I was when I stumbled onto this site. It really is amazing to be a part of.
