Hi everyone,
Got a call from my son about midnight and he had taken pregnant DIL to emergency. She was having severe back pains radiating to stomach. She was checked out by the Labor & Delivery doc and said they didn't see any evidence of premature labor....WHEW....but she was in severe pain and they gave her something for pain that was OK for pregnant women. She had a bad reaction to that and her blood pressure went down and she was blacking out. My son was calling me about every hour to give me an update. One time he was crying and said he was really scared. I was a basket case by this time but tried to be strong telling him that everything would be OK. Finally, the last call at around 6AM he said that she had stabilized and was doing a lot better and they were sending her home.
Anyway, needless to say, I feel like crap today with no sleep and all the worry. It really helps to be able to pour all of this out to you. Thanks for listening.
She had that problem once before she became pregnant and they said it was back spasms. Guess that is what it was this time, too.

Wow Barbie... that does sound like a terrible night. It must be hard to be a parent and to have your kids grow up and move away and then feel helpless when they need you again. I'm glad everything is ok again, and I'm glad your son has such a great mom to turn to in the middle of the night!

Oh Barbie... good grief! I'm sure you do feel awful today... take care of yourself, rest today, and feel better soon! {hugs}
As a side note, did they check her for gallstones? That sounds exactly like the pain I had with 'stones... and when I was diagnosed, they said it was more common in pregnant women than not. Anyway, glad to hear she's ok.

Ohhhhh, Barbie....that must have been awful for you, to hear him crying on the phone and to not be able to do anything but wait it out. I'm so glad he had you to talk to---and that you remained strong (at least on the outside) for him. Imagine how scared he must have been too!
I'm glad the baby is OK and that she didn't go into premature labor. How far along is she? (I forgot)
Just get some rest today and you will feel better. Lots of hugs from me. () () ()

Hi Casey,
Yeah, it does sound like gallstones but she already had her gallbladder out.
Thanks for being concerned.

Hi BL,
Yes, it is really hard to hear your 33 yr old son crying on the phone while he is so far away. I just wanted to cry along with him. In between each call I would just lay down and stare at the ceiling and talk to hubby. Good thing hubby was home....I would really have freaked out if he was still gone.
DIL is starting her 6th month.
Thanks for your concern.

Hey Sis,
Sorry about your DIL. I can't say that I can relate, because I've never been pregnant (obviously), but I sure know about back pain! Oy.
Now you go back to bed and catch up on your sleep, or you won't be able to help them. Since you're so like me, I know you need that sleep!
Talk to you later -- Sis

I'm so sorry Barbie. How awful. And we IBS-ers are such worriers. I'm so glad she's ok. You do need a good nap!

Oh, Barbie, you poor thing! My daughter is pregnant, too, (due January 1st). She's had a lot of trouble and has been to the ER twice already. The first time, she and her husband wanted me to go with them. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I had to watch my child crying out of pain and fear. It was horrible. Anyway, everything has turned out fine, so far. You're very sweet to be there for your son. I know it was a hard night for you all, but how fortunate for your son that you were able to be there for him. Now, get some sleep and take care of yourself. I hope everything is well now, Terri

Hi,
Is this your first grandchild? It's mine and she is due in November. Do you know if it is a girl or boy? My son's birthday is next week and I sent him a pair of little pink satin baby shoes that say I (heart) Daddy on them. Today I bought two bibs one says Grandma loves you and the other says Grandpa loves you.
What was wrong with your daughter that she had to go to the emergency room? I know it was hard but it was great that you could be there with her. I wish I lived closer to my son & DIL. It's so hard to deal with these sorts of things over the phone.
I did hear from him a few minutes ago and she seems to be doing just fine...except for being tired. I think he is more stressed out than she is. He takes up after me when it comes to stress.
Thanks for your concern

So sorry to hear about your son and dil. I've always said, once a mom, always a mom--it doens't matter how old our kids are-we are always there for them and must always be strong for them no matter what. Then AFTER the crisis we can collapse, right? Sure hope she's doing better today. Please try and relax today and give Barbie some TLC, ok? You will be in my thoughts and prayers as well as your dil. I hope everyone is well and turns out fine. I'm sure it will though! Keep us posted!
Take care and get some sleep.

Hi Barbie, I just wanted to say that I am glad to hear that your DIL is feeling better today. I can just imagine the stress that you have been and are STILL going through regarding this whole situation. Think of the positives that are in your life...a loving family (both humans and animals) friends, and of course this includes those who are here as well. Thank goodness things sound like they are going much better. Try and do relaxing, stress-relievers for yourself...Perhaps some soothing music, a few nice hot cups of tea and a few lie-downs and cuddling with the ones near and dear. Keep thinking positively and let us know how everything goes.

Hi Barbie,
My daughter almost had a miscarriage and she's had severe migraines. It looks like everything's under control for now, so I'm very happy about that. This will be my 4th grandchild. My daughter has a little boy, Sammy and my oldest son has 2 children. Their ages are 6, 3, and 2. I don't get to see the two oldest ones very often at all, but I make up for it with the little one.
Will you get to see your grandchild after her birth? When she's old enough maybe she'll get to come to your house and spend the summer with you. I did that with my Grandma and it was wonderful!
We don't know yet if it's a boy or a girl. Hopefully we'll find out next week because she's having a sonogram. I keep having dreams that it's a girl, so I'm thinking that's what we're having. I'm so excited and just can't hardly wait.
I'm glad your dil is doing okay. Your son sounds like my sil. He just gets so frantic! But, it's so hard not to worry.
Well, try to get your rest and take care of yourself! Terri
