Little background - just got out of the hospital with vomiting/bloody d on Thurs & am trying to get back to something like normal . I had a setback last night of the vomiting so I took some heavy duty medicine last. This morning at 6 am I heard someone knocking at the door, unfortunately the only way you know who is at the door is to open it or open the shades & look out the window. I opened the door & there was a man there in his boxer shorts (with just a little bit of flesh showing) telling me he needed help for his family. I told him I was sick & couldn't help him & shut & locked the door. I went back to sleep on the couch. I did not wake my husband, call the police, I went back to sleep. When my husband got up I told him what had happened, he told me I should have never answered the door & I should have gotten him. My husband went to get the Sunday paper & he found the guys regular street shorts, wallet & cell phone laying on the back of my car. My husband was like he had something planned, why would he have taken off his regular clothes. He called the police & I talked to an officer, I told him I should have not answered the door & he said someone knocked on the door & you answered it; thats what people do. He told me the most important thing I did was shut the door. When I told my husband what the officer said, he agreed. I still feel bad that I put my family in harms way, but I do thank God for it turning out ok. The police came & took his clothes, they said they would deliver them, but he is from out of state so he will have to go to the police station. I told my husband we had never had contingency plans for a man showing up on your doorstop in boxer shorts with his pee-pee showing a bit . Thanks for listening.

Ewwww...that is soooooooo creepy. Gave me goose bumps reading it! I'm so glad that everything turned out ok. Do you know how lucky you were that that sicko didn't grab you and put you in that car????? I'm sure the police already lectured you on that though

I might not have answered the door simply cause at that time of the hour if someone rang the doorbell I would have been skeptical. ALSO we have those little side windows along our door and I can look through them and if I saw some strange guy in his underwear I might have just about freaked and called my husband down. I'm a big, big chicken when it comes to stuff like that!

However, your story made me laugh cause we refer to the "pee pee" word in our house with our children. It's just sucha cute word. Of course in your case, today it wasn't cute !

Take care and maybe you should some of those side windows along your door!

I'm not going to lecture, I'm just going to say that's freaking creepy! Ok, I'm also going to say that if he left his wallet behind, he's pretty freaking stupid on top of creepy. Ah well. Just glad to hear you and yours are safe!!

That is scary, but how would you know not to answer the door. I answer the door all the time, especially if my DH is home, even if he is still in bed. 6 am is early, but alot of our friends are up at that time of the day all the time.

Don't be too hard on yourself. It's not like you let him in for some coffee or something, when you noticed he was strange you closed the door. Done!!!

Don't worry, everything turned out fine, Thank goodness!

How scary! We have had an outbreak of home invasions where someone knocks on the door and then when you answer they push you and come in and do whatever they want. I have gotten in the habit of either not answering the door or if I go to the door I don't open just say "who is it?" and if it's someone I don't know I tell them I don't open the door to strangers. It's ashame it has to be that way these days....I remember the days when I never even gave it a second thought to answer the door.

Anyway, I am so glad that nothing happened because it looks like that guy was up to no-good.

Sorry you are still feeling bad.

I used to live in Alexandria. Nice place -- I THOUGHT.

Daisy, you can have a telescope peep hole installed in your front door -- that's what we did here in the condo. You buy them at the hardware store, and anyone with a drill can install it.

I'm a big scardy cat; I never open the door unless I ask who it is and what they want. I always feel silly talking through the door, but now that you've told us this horror story, I'm convinced it's best to feel silly than sorry.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks to you all for your kind words, for the things you did say & the things you didn't say . I do realize how incredibly stupid I was & how I put our family in danger. I don't know if the fact that I told him I was sick was what saved me or if the fact I just shut the door made the difference. I do believe I had a guardian angel with me this morning. My husband is looking into a new door or a security camera as I write this. I told him after our youngest left for college that I wanted to get an alarm system or guard dog. Now we have a beautiful 1/2 lab/husky mix dog named Chloe who proved this morning that she is worthless as a guard dog. My husband said where was Chloe during all this, Chloe was firmly planted on her couch & couldn't be bothered. Now if the guy had grabbed me & I had screamed she might have decided to come to my rescue. I am not going to beat myself up about this, hopefully I have learned from my mistakes. Thanks again everyone.

I just want to say, I probably would have done the same thing. I'm so glad for you and you family that he left after you shut the door. Scarey to think what could have happened. Yes, I believe you had a guardian angel right there with you.

Daisy,

Thank heavens that everything worked out okay! I have to say, though, that I think you are feeling way too guilty. Obviously you will never open the door at six a.m. again, but it's not like you did something _wrong_. You're innocent here, my dear.

Just an FYI for Barbie and anyone else who sometimes just ignores the door: Sometimes criminals (robbers, mostly) knock/ring to find out if anyone is home. If no one answers, they break in. It's actually safer to say, as Barbie does sometimes, that you don't open the door to strangers.

I'm so glad we live in a gated complex!!!

I am glad you are okay- it sucks when stuff like that happens, right? Everyone SHOULD be able to feel safe answering their door. I had a similiar situation almost a year ago when I moved into my apartment. I was coming home from being out late on the weekend with my BF, and there was a naked guy walking around the complex! At the time I didn't realize that the police station was practically down the street, or I would have went there. And I didn't know the number, and 411 costs WAY too much on my cell phone.
I took the lazy way out, and we went out for alittle while longer and than came home. I felt safe enough cause my BF stays over on the weekends, and he can beat up any scary dudes for me .
Looking back, it was really irresponsible of me to not notify the police. But, not everyone thinks the way they should in unusual situations, huh?
Glad again that everything is okay!

Daisy,

This is so scary. I guess you won't be opening your door early in the morning or anytime again without knowing who is on the other side. This kind of thing makes you realize that someone is looking out for you. How easily this whole situation could have gone in another direction.

I am glad that you are ok.
