How can you tell if you're having an IBS attack or a diverticulitis attack?

Simple. A diverticulitis attack is EXTREME. You're literally doubled-over in pain -- I mean LITERALLY. I was clutching onto the furniture to try to stand up. I would try to poop to relieve the pain, but nothing came out, and the relief was almost non-existent. My antispasmodic meds -- the heavy duty stuff (Donnatal) wouldn't work, and they ALWAYS work for IBS attacks -- ALWAYS. Then I knew I was in trouble, and I was in so much pain, I called the doctor's office and was told to get myself to the hospital. They gave me a pain shot, which my body REALLLY didn't like, and I spent the entire "visit" in the hospital bathroom with my head buried in the toilet. I lost a thousand pounds in 2 hours.

A catscan confirmed the diverticulitis. I was given an antibiotic and sent home; within a few days the infection was gone and I was back to my old self.

So when your antispasmodic meds don't work for you, you have to clutch onto the furniture to hold yourself up, and you're ready to dial 911, it's gotta be diverticulitis!

We'll do fine, girlfriend -- we just gotta stay away from all seeds and nuts.

Bev

Ohhhh yes i remember those pains!! Can remember a few times before i was actually diagnosed with Diverticulitis when i would actually vomit from the pain.I have Librax for my IBS,it only seems to work once in awhile.I honestly dont know if i have any more "pockets"in my intestines, since they removed the affected area. The surgeon gave me the okay to eat whatever i like, but my family doctor told me, its likely the "pockets" will grow back since i had it before. So i generally just avoid the seeds, popcorn and nuts as a precaution.Im not a big popcorn eater, but sometimes the smell of buttered popcorn drives me insane! I really miss Cashews and honey roasted peanuts

I don't know if I have seen Luna Bars? I live in London Ontario, Canada. I was in a health food store and saw a bar of that name but it didn't specify that it didn't contain dairy? How do I know what Luna bars are safe....

I find honesty is the best policy with co-worker when it comes to foods I can't eat. I say I have IBS and eating that wonderful looking cookies will be a really bad idea. I also bake the breads and cakes from the book and bring them into work for snacks and to share.

I also have a tub of the soluble fibre supplement in my desk.
