I just received my order of Acacia fibre and it was opened by customs bag sliced open I guess they thought it was drugs the dumb asses sorry for the language just mad....Does anyone know if it will be any good or do I just toss it and say too bad and don't bother trying the fibre route to see if I get better...

Also has this happened to anyone else or do I have all the luck...First a diverticulitis attack....Second got a staff infection from a sliver....Third customs destroyed my order what next.....Sorry for ranting...

Hey Winnie!
Sorry to hear about your bad luck If it were me, I don't think I'd use it, but I'm pretty anal that way. What country do you live in? I'm assuming it's not the United States if customs got a hold of it.

I wouldn't forget about fiber altogether though, maybe try ordering the Acacia again, or try a different SFS altogether. If you're in Canada I can make some recommendations for some you can get in Canada if you want.

If you decide not to use the Acacia, and you want to order more, maybe email Heather when you put through the order and see if she has any other suggestions for the shipping, like something she coudl put on the package so they won't open it again. I ordered mine to Canada and didn't have a problem, but I think they're cracking down, because the last 3 packages I've gotten from other countries have been opened at customs.

Hope you feel better soon!
Kelly

Yes, I do live in Canada Edmonton to be exact...The only fibre I've tried here is Metimucil and that was terrible so won't try that again....D was alot worse and it has wheat filler which I can't have much. So if you know where I can get citrucil I'd like to try that....or anything else you have in mind....Just ticks me off 60 bucks down the drain...

One thing that you could try would be Prodiem, it's a fiber supplement that you can get in Canada. You have to be careful with it, as I've seen it come in 3 different varieties. One has psyllium which is similar to Metamucil so you won't want that, one has senokot which is a laxative so you won't want that, but the third is a pill form that's made up of calcium polycarbophil, which as I believe is the same ingredient found in Equalactin, which many people on this site swear by.

Those pills are a soluble fiber supplement only, so they may be worth a try. You don't normally get enough fiber through pills, but it's better than nothing

Hope that helps,
Kelly

Winnie, where ARE you? I've never heard of them doing that before. You should let Heather know, because this affects all her international shipping. I wonder if she's ever had this problem? Yeah, you should tell her, just alert her to it.

I'm afraid I'd toss the stuff. I just don't like the idea of someone else in my food. (I have an issue with restaurants too.) Maybe I'm not the one to ask.

I don't know where you are, but are you able to buy Benefiber there? (Here we get it at Safeway.) I like it better than Acacia because it dissolves instantly, whereas Acacia takes awhile. Otherwise, it's just like Acacia: has no taste, doesn't get thick, works just as well.

You need the SFS, even just a little. (I don't take a lot, only 3g./day.)

Sorry that Customs did this to you. I've certainly had my share of problems with Customs! (Don't get me started.) The last time I came back over the border, I swore I'd never go back up to Canada again -- not EVER -- and I've kept that promise to myself. I haven't been up there in over 9 months (and I'm right ON the border). I have nothing against Canadians -- they're delightful people -- but Customs and Immigration!? OMG! They're the WORST trigger for IBS, even more so than coffee or dairy! I just won't subject myself to that stress any more.

Okay, my ranting is over.

Tell Heather. She needs to know.

Oh, you're in Canada! Beautiful country there. Delightful people too. HORRIBLE Customs and Immigration!

(However, I understand our Customs and Immigration aren't any better. Why can't we just all get along, eh?)

You can try Citrucel, but the powder is what you want -- because it has twice the fiber as the capsules. The problem with Citrucel powder is that it gets thick and has a taste of its own. Ew.

Check out Benefiber. I really like it.

I have a big container of Benefiber I wish I could give you! I felt horrible after using it. It totally shut my system down. I was bloated like a cow, doubled over in pain, and had horrible C and gas. I'll never take it again---And I paid good money for that stuff. Wish I could give it to someone who could use it. Guess I'll just throw it away.

... and now I have a container of the orange-flavored powder AND a bottle of the tablets, each missing no more than a full-size dose, and I guess they're destined for the trash, too. $30 down the drain. Sigh.

Don't you wish they sold small trial-size containers of these fiber supplements? Then we could try them without wasting so much money. That and paint---I have tons of quarts of paint in my garage that didn't work out!

Gee, what a reaction you had to the stuff! It's guar gum. Sounds like your body doesn't tolerate the stuff very well. How much were you taking? I'm at a very low dosage -- only 3g./day -- but I still have a lot of Heather's Acacia left (an entire bag), so when I run out of the Benefiber, I intend to use up the Acacia. You're right; it's tough tossing out stuff like this after paying so much for it. But I look at it this way: better in the garbage than in your body.
