I'm a bath person. I'll take a shower if I'm REALLLLY dirty, like after a workout, 'cause no one wants to "stew in their own juices," ya know? But I prefer baths. At the new house, they put in a jaccuzzi tub for me, with a big window right next to it, so I can look out at the trees while luxuriating in my whirlpool....
Well, that may all be just a pipe dream. I have a problem with constant Urinary Tract Irritations, and my doctor recently told me to stop taking baths. I asked him if I couldn't just change soaps instead, but he didn't think that would be a fix (although he did say to avoid washing myself in that area).
Now, I ask you: how can you get clean if you don't wash yourself? Get real.
What do you guys use, if not soap?
Bev

Hey Bev,
Missed you on the boards lately. I know you are busy with the house. Hope everything is coming along OK.
Yes! I am a bath person, too. I usually use Ivory or Dove with no perfumes, dye's, etc. I use Tuck's Cleansing Pads, too. Also, make sure the wash detergent you use for your underwear has no perfume or dye in it. I use Cheer Free & Clear. That can also cause irritation...found out the hard way.
I've noticed that since menopause, I have more frequent but less severe urinary infections. Maybe discomfort for one day and then it's gone. Never have to take any meds for it.
One more thing. Probiotics might help to keep the good bacteria working. I know you take one but have you been taking it lately?
Just one of the things we "Old Broads" have to put up with!!!!

Barbie, EXCELLENT tips here! THANKS! Cheer Free & Clear, eh? Okay. And how did you know I haven't been taking my probiotic? BUSTED! (It's just that I've had so much on my mind lately, I haven't been waking up at my usual probiotic-taking time (midnite).)
And you're also right -- I've had the worst time of it since the menopause thing. Damn, it's great being female.
Thanks again! And Dr. Laura -- what good are ya, anyways?

I've never heard of not washing in that area....I would think that would be the worst you could do to ward off urinary tract infections. One of the best things I've found (as suggested by the GYN nurse) is straight cranberry juice. Make sure you read the ingrediants and that cranberry juice is at or near the top of the list. The best I've found is Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice. I buy it by the gallon. And make sure you are drinking alot of water. {{{{{hugs}}}}}

Not much, I guess! My experience with UTI is about 20 years ago, thank goodness. Back during the "honeymoon" days, if you know what I mean!!

Hi, have you ever tried the "feminine" washes? I'm not sure what I have but it works a lot better than soap, doesn't irritate. I think Summer's Eve? Stuff like that...

Feminine washes are great, but I guess you get different brands to me. I always switch to one when I get thrush flare-ups and they're really helpful.
A cranberry juice bath sounds fun tho!

hey, Bevrs. this sucks! i used to get UTIs a lot. i am NOT a bath girl, though i know that those of you who are just LOVE it!
i would recommend skipping bubbles if you use them in your bath. and go to Ivory (no dyes etc...) and use the Purex or Woolite for the wash on your underwear. changing detergents DEFINITELY helped me.
also---sorry to get personal --- get up and go to the bathroom to pee immediately after sex if you aren't already. it helps.
and cranberry juice.
basically, i have nothing new to add the other ladies didn't! hope you get it cleared up soon. i'm sure you can figure a way not to have to stop taking baths...
SMOOCHES.
oh, wait. i just remembered. my little niece was getting UTIs from the bath. they suggested letting her play in the bath as long as she wanted without washing, then standing her up to do the washing bit or washing her at the last minute and then getting her out of the tub immediately, so she's not sitting in the soap. maybe that will help.
