Interesting post, Jen. I don't need any time to think about it; I've spent many YEARS doing that.
What talent or gift do you wish you possessed??? (not magical power.... just a normal old talent!): I wish I knew how to make true friends and KEEP THEM.
and....
Which of your current talent(s)/power(s) would you refuse to give up for all the tea in China??: My compassion for others.

Hey Jen,
Too early in the morning to think that deep but here are my answers:
I wish I had some artistic and musical talent. I can't draw or sing a note.
I wouldn't give up my ability to always put others before myself and be very unselfish. Also, my patience.....and boy, do I have to use that a lot.

Well, I would also like some musical talent! Can't carry a beat or sing a lick to save my life! My hubby is a guaiter player but can play anything and sings very well also! So it would be nice to join in on the jam sessions once in a while!
My talent is organization and planning. Sometimes to a fault!

Jen, no fair, you stole mine! I've always wanted a great singing voice -- the kind that leaves people in total awe and adulation.
What talent wouldn't I give up? I play the piano and that's always been a source of great enjoyment, relaxation and comfort for me. I used to joke that music kept me sane, because it was such a great emotional outlet. Whenever I was upset or down, I'd sit down and play my heart out, and it always helped. Oddly enough, I've hardly played at all since I got sick last year. No idea what that's about. It's tiring and I just don't enjoy it right now. But I still wouldn't want to give it up.
Good questions, Jennie!

Definitely a great question. I really had to think about this.
I wish I possessed the ability to keep in touch with others. I'm horrible at communicating over any amount of distance, and if my friends aren't the ones to take the initiative to ask me out or give me a call I most likely won't end up talking to them for a while. I try to make the effort, I really do... but I usually end up failing.
I would refuse to give up my ability to see both sides of an issue. No matter what it is, I can almost always understand the value of both parties' points of view. It's kept me from becoming too opinionated and allows me to help others settle their disputes.

Good morning Jen:)
For the 1st Question: I wish that I could sing or dance. I like to sing-a-long to oldies, but not with a big crowd. Just in my car hee hee. Dancing would be nice, than I could dance with others. I'm horrible at both.
For Question 2: I like to cook. I'm not perfect but I enjoy it, and it helps that I like it so I can cook me healthy meals. I used to play the flute, and when I am better I am looking into playing the piano.
Great questions:-)

Had to think about the first part for quite a while before I could answer because I could only have magical powers to accomplish it but if I did have them it would be that everyone, everywhere could be healthy and happy. Since we couldn't pick something with magical powers it would have to be two things I always wanted to do since I was very young. Take tap dance and piano lessons.
The second part was the easiest to answer as I always want to be able to have empathy for people and be able to put myself in their shoes in order to know what they must be going through. Have always tried doing this and hope I have succeeded as I really feel for people and hate to see them suffer whether it's mental, physical, emotional etc.

Well, the second part is easier than the first of course - but what tallent have I always wished I could have? This would be either playing the violin (I've always so much wanted to learn) or dealing with things that are more technical in nature (like math and chemistry and all those hard sciences that make my brain go into rebellion! As for the thing I would not give up, I believe it would be my ability to learn languages - I think I have my parents to thank for that one for shipping me around the world so much of my life - it's stuck though, and it's really cool to be able to communicate with people from different parts of the world and help further communication between cultures. No wouldn't give that up! Min

haha, better watch out Kree or you'll have lots of people chasing after you while singing out of tune
Before my voice changed I was in a couple different choirs and did solos at Church a lot of the time, but since my voice has changed that doesn't happen. It is a pretty cool experience having 500 or so people listen to you sing. Although at the time I wished I was better at sports instead of the singing thing.
As for the original questions I'm not sure. I guess I wish I was a little more agressive/assertive. I know I can be, but mostly it's when I KNOW I'm in the right and that its worth making a fuss over, too often I just take the easy way out and keep quiet.
That being said, the answer to the second question is that I like that I'm general quite patient, don't have a quick temper and am generally good at taking a rational look at both sides of a conflict.

That's cool, Jamie! I used to sing solos at church when I was younger too. I never regretting being able to sing instead of play sports, though... I hated sports! I guess there are some different pressures on guys in that area.

LOL That's hilarious, I love Monty Python! They've always got the most absurb little sayings:
"I'm not dead!" "yes you are!" "No I'm not, I'm getting better"

At the time it was different, I didn't mind singing, but it certainly wasn't 'cool'. Although now I realize how silly it was to worry about things like that and I embrace my sometimes uncoolness. Now I wish I could actually sing again, I think if I took some lessons I might not be that bad, but that is kinda low on my priority scale right now. I just enjoy singing along in the car.

Oh my, guess I should rephrase my statement. Don't get me wrong, I've had fun teaching, and lots of challenges along the way. (Ever teach a blind woman how to sew?) And I might add, successes. Plus, instead of getting stuck teaching High School I got to go on to Adult Ed (my love) which I still do on a part time bases for Cal State.
I suspect it's now in my later years I regret not having had the ABILITY to be the professional in a field that I would have loved but when I was considering it was typically male dominated, plus I didn't have the smarts to even get into those schools....The salary and retirement that goes along with those professions would have been an added bonus.
But everything happens for a reason...........and so I count my blessings and am happy I could contribute to the betterment of society along the way..........
Thanks for pumping me up, colleagues!!!
Case closed?

So didja get out to the HFS today? We went out shopping today for an old outhouse. You know, you can't find those anymore!
Our new electric meter sits outside by itself among the trees. We can't stand it, and we're trying to think of a great way to cover it. I came up with the outhouse idea (hmmm, now how do you suppose that idea popped into my head?), and hubby loves it (can you imagine the electric meter-reading guy coming by to read the meter and having to open the door of the old outhouse to get to it?! ), but we just can't find one. I can't undertand why.
Got ideas?

didn't think i'd come through, didja? i know you have such a sentimental attachment to outhouses 'cause of the fond memories of your dad. did you know you're not the only one!? (i mean, not the only one who thinks fondly of outhouses, not that has those memories of your dad.... )
HERE YOU GO, BEVVY. Check this out, from the site just below this paragraph.... go to this page here and click on 1) Garden Outhouse Plans (Build your own Outhouse). cheap plans and it's cute. you could see if you could find some old wood at a home salvage place (you could even check online- Google for it. there's a big business in reselling bits of old homes and barns!) and i bet you could find a carpenter who could put that together for you for a nominal fee. it's not like it's a barn or a garage! it's a small venture. in fact, around these parts i'd suggest you find a nice Amish lad looking for some money, but i don't think you have the luxury of their skill and workmanship up there.... do you? yeah, Bev, i LOVE this idea!!!
here's the main page: like so. out!

DAMN! I couldn't open the first web site you gave me for the outhouse plans! ARGH! I got "Invalid transmission." RATS. Jen, could you please tell me what the web site is, and I'll try going into it outside the Boards. I think that sounds like a real fun project for Don -- you know, to keep the old retired gentleman OFF MY BACK while I'm decorating the new house?
The other website were a lot of fun; I saw several old outhouses I liked quite well -- the 2-seater, for instance! Ah yes, fond memories....
I'm very impressed, Jen. Is there nothing you can't do?

P.S.: About finding a carpenter to build it? Well, actually, I tried to feel out my builder (uh, not literally mind you), and, while he was very diplomatic, I could tell he thought I'd lost my mind.....

It worked perfect this time, sugar! THANKS! It's exactly what we're looking for.
I printed it out and maybe I'll order the plans myself and surprise hubby for our anniversary. "Happy Anniversary, dear, here's some blueprints to make an outhouse!"
Works for me.

No, seriously Pat, Those are some of the nicest comments I've heard in ages. You are just to sweet.........If there were more people like you in this world we'd not have the problems we have...........we'd all be caring more about each other!!!
Thank you again.............

Thanks for the kinds words Kandee and you would NEVER have to pay me to say something nice about YOU!! You know me well enough to know that I tell it like it is. You are a wealth of knowledge and with the IBS knowlege you have could teach a lot of doctors a thing or two or three etc.
We have some of the most wonderful people on this site. I try to let them know it but have to watch I don't sound as mushy as I feel. It's like another family here. Everyone should be told what a difference they make in our lives and not only have you done that for me but you're a smart cookie to boot in other areas as well!!
Hugs,
Pat
