Ok, i've done it! Downed the Fleet Phosphosoda and am now a "ticking poop bomb" so to speak. Scared to death for when it's going to start, but trying to remain calm. Thanks to everyone who offered words of encouragement and suggestions, it means the world to me! now, all I have to do is get through the next 24 hours or so. Wish me luck!

I can use all the positive vibes out there!

Good luck Kelly. Just remember that in a bit more than a day, it'll be over and you'll have done it!

You go brew some herbal tea and warm up your heating pad. Then find a good book and settle down near the bathroom.

It's 4:30 Pacific time, so that means 7:30 your time, so you've gone through the entire day, probably spent in the bathroom, eh?

You know, I forgot to tell you a funny story. One of my fellow river rats when we lived in B.C. had to have a colonoscopy. She was our realtor, a Canadian lady with a lot of spunk, who never had a colonoscopy before. She asked me about the procedure and all, but she wasn't freaked out in the least. When it came time for the prep -- the day before the procedure -- when she was supposed to stay at home and poop all day, she was out on the road, making business calls! I tried to tell her she needed to stay by the wash room (see, I used the right terminology there), but she said, "No way; I have work to do, places to see, houses to show! If I need to poop, I'll just go wherever I can, EH!?" And that's exactly what she did! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? She amazed me. She actually came by my house the DAY OF THE PROCEDURE, right after it was done, to let me know the status of our house sale! Now THAT's a professional!

But this is about you. How are YOU doing? Just think -- the bad part is all over with. You should be nice and cleaned out by now. Are ya hungry? Okay, sorry. That wasn't very funny, was it?

Just remember, laughter's the best medicine.

I'm thinkin' 'boutcha, Girlfriend.

Hi there, Girlfriend!

How are all your bruises? You feelin' better?

To be honest with you (don't tell anyone), I haven't gone back to the Acacia. I thought my body needed a break from all that stuff. I tried taking just 1T of it the other day, and the gas and bloating returned. So I haven't been on it since. AND -- I'm real pleased to tell you that I haven't had ANY gas or ANY bloating since I gave it up. It's wonderful. I was blowing all the time and afraid to go out anywhere, because I was having unexpected and very urgent D attacks at the most inappropriate times.

Frankly, I'm afraid to go back to it. I bought some Benefiber, but hubby thinks I should just stop taking it all together. (Shhhhh.... don't tell anyone.)

I don't think I'm qualified to give anyone advice on anything, but if it were me, and I had all that gas and bloating, and urgent D, I'd cut back on whatever I thought was causing it.

Gerry, did you see my post for your daughter a little over a week ago? Here it is: web page

Smooches!

Why not try with just 1 or 2 t to start with? You should probably act as if you were just starting to take the SFS for the first time and start real slow.

Okay, so what would happen to me if I stopped taking SFS all together?

That wasn't meant to be a smart-a** comment (which, granted, would be normal for me), but I meant it as a question because I really wanna know. I had given some thought to going back to a few capsules of Fibercon, which is what I was taking before I discovered Heather and the Boards a hundred years ago, but then Mags introduced me to SmartSource.com, which had a coupon for Benefiber, so I printed it out and took it to the store and bought some of the stuff. Then hubby said not to take it. (I think he's tired of me farting.)

Gals, I'll be honest with ya, I'm afraid to take it. I have such a damn sensitive system, and I've had so many URGENT attacks lately, even if I could tolerate all the gas I really can't have those urgent attacks while standing at the counter in the Post Office.

Your advice is appreciated. I apologize for being my usual smart-a** self.

Maybe you'd be better off taking tiny amounts (1t?) quite a few times a day instead of 2 or 3 bigger doses?

I just know that the SFSs helped my IBS so much. I couldn't live without my Acacia. I guess we're all different thuogh and our IBS defeinitely is, so if it works for you...

I've actually only been "prepping" for about 4 hours because my procedure isn't until 2:30 in the afternoon tomorrow and well, it kinda sucks. I'm hanging in there and apart from weird stomach swelling (see my post in EFI board) it's not quite as bad as I thought, although it's a good thing I'm a fast typer because I can't stay out of the bathroom for very long!

And I'm not hungry, though thanks for asking You're just mean eh? I haven't been eating much lately anyways, so it's not much different now.

Thanks again for your support.

I love my benefiber. For me Cramps & blockingfrom Metamucil, some pain from citrucil and no relief from the big "C", then bought Acacia and was afriad to take it cause I never heard of it before, then tried benefiber and the benefiber has been a lifesaver. I can't remember the last time I felt gassy or even used a beano or gas x, well I can remember, but it was before benefiber. We are all different though. If you want to try no fiber that's your choice, you may even find your IBS is GONE! But if you go back to fiber, give bene a try, can't hurt anything. Glad you are feeling good either way

Kelly, I'm worried about you. Why haven't you been eating? I don't mean right now -- obviously you CAN'T eat right now -- but before, why weren't you eating BEFORE? You're gonna eat after the procedure tomorrow, right? You're not going anorexic on us, are ya, Girlfriend?

Nope not getting anorexic, just can't seem to keep anything down Even just plain rice or bread, if I eat much more than a few mouthfuls I feel really nauseous and get bad D.

I've told my doctor but I don't think he believed me in how serious it is, he said that I could stand to lose a little weight...insensitive you know what! So, here I am, going on month two almost of eating very little, not fun. After the procedure my primary doc promised that if this GI guy doesn't help me he'll refer me to another one...so hopefully things will get better.

Hey thanks! Good to know you like the Benefiber. I might just try a little of it and see how I do. I mean, after all, I bought it, so I have it, might as well try it out, right?

Yes, thanks, I'm much better now. NO GAS AT ALL, no urgency, no bloat -- it's marvelous. Like Mags said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm scared to fix it.

Thanks again, CrampGirl!

Glad you liked it! Now, here's the plan with the SFS. Let's take it ONE DAY at a time. So today, your assignment is to take 1/4 teaspoon of the Benefiber, then NONE tomorrow or the next day. That's it. No more. Then take obsessive notes every hour on how you feel. Give me the full report at the end of the day Thursday and then I'll decide what Friday's assignment is. Okay? DO IT NOW, BEV!! THAT'S AN ORDER!! BAD BEV!!!

Hey Bev,

My darn computer has been acting up so I haven't been able to get on-line. I see we are still on the subject of Acacia.... I know it probably works great for most people but I don't take it or any other fiber supplements (I have IBS-D) and usually do fine if I stay away from trigger foods. I know everyone is trying to give you advice and here's mine.... I know that whenever you have a day without stomach problems it is a GREAT DAY. Everyone has there own unique stomach and whatever works for some may not work for others. If you start feeling bad again then you can start back on the Acacia program. I know others will not agree with me
Hope you are still feeling good when you read this.

Hey there, Barbie!

Yeah, we're still on the subject of Acacia. It's kinda an important subject. I appreciate EVERYONE's opinion. Yes, even yours, you cutie you!

Of course, that doesn't mean I'll follow them. I do think it's interesting to see what works for others.

I'm a little concerned because of my diverticulosis. It's (supposedly) imperative that I take a SFS. LauraSue has given me orders to take a little Benefiber and see how I do. She's so masterful, how can I resist?

I remember you told me a few posts ago that you don't take any SFS. Did you ever try any?

Yes, thank you, Barbie, I AM feeling great. A little acid reflux problem, but it'll pass. How 'bout YOU? How YOU doin'?

Hey Bev,

I'm OK thanks for asking, but, I am under a lot of stress due to problems my sister is having. She is taking care of her mentally disabled daughter, her grandson and doesn't have a husband or a job. Needless to say, I am trying to help her the best I can but when I come home from her house, like today, I am pooped....and sometimes have to poop. Ha! Ha!
To answer your question, I never have taken any fiber supplements (fear of the unknown). I get my fiber from Oatmeal and like I said before usually don't have a problem unless I eat a trigger food or "STRESS". Plenty of that lately.

Have a great day
