Steph, I'll be thinking of you! I hope you learn something about why you're feeling so exhausted. I can't wait to hear the verdict!

Ok, I'm back. It went pretty well. My throid is off still. So he upped my dose. And my Epstine-Barr iS NOT in remission...its getting better, according to the lab work. But its not gone yet. He said it will take 3 months to feel better once the Epstine-Barr is in remission. He told me if I don't start feeling better in two weeks...(tyroid meds) Then to come in and they will give me Gama (sp?) shots. Does anyone know much about Gama shots?

Anyways I'm happy to know that there is still room for improvement. I was starting to think I was nutty!!!! The reason for this...is his office called a week ago and said my lab work looked fine. UM.....HELLO!!! It wasn't! Stupid lady....she didn't know what she was talking about. I was worried all week...wondering whats wrong with me. I'm happy to know its just the Thyroid and Epstine-barr.

Now we're working on getting that under control. I hope the new dose works. He said I'll know with in two weeks. I really hope I improve!!!!!

Thanks everyone!

Oh that's such good news! Well, it's not good that you're feeling ill and the EB is back, but at least you know what's wrong and what to do.

Here's hoping you're feeling way better in under a fortnight!

Hey Pretty Lady,

I know ZIP about Epstein-Barr -- even less than I know about Fibro (which is ZILCH). ZIP is less than ZILCH, ain't it?

Well, pretty lady, I'm happy for you, mostly because it sounds like you have a doctor working WITH you. That's SOOOO nice. If things aren't better in two weeks, that doc is gonna look further. I like your doc.

Now you need to celebrate. Got Jack?

Well Steph, I know it will take almost a month for the thyroid meds to kick in, but yes, if your blood work is still way off it is ok to increase the dose of Armour. I was on 2 grains (120 mg) at one time. Did you get a copy of your thyroid blood results? (I hope.) You see why I say get a copy of all blood results? If you had had a copy and learned a little about what the numbers mean (all that kind of info is on those web sites I gave you) you'd know that what the office gal/nurse told you was NOT right!! We have to be our own watchdogs!!!

As to the Epstine-Barr I don't know much, only what I've read, but know I'll be tested for that too, down the road.

It's only been what, about 2 weeks now you've been on the Armour so may be a bit soon to tell.

As to gamma gobulin shots I believe they use them a lot with lupus patients, and it is to spike the blood but with what I don't know...........Do a google search and get some answers before you go get one. I would have guessed it was for your Epstine-Barr not thyroid.........never heard of that one, but will look into it. BTW, what meds are you on for the E-Barr? Just curious.

Don't worry, you have a GOOD doc, like me, and he will get you straightened out. The bad part is that there is no "quick fix" it takes time..............and in the meantime WE SUFFER!!!

Rest when you can..............I think of you often....and wish you only the best............

Kandee

Steph, I'd say it's encouraging that you have so much room for improvement! I'm sorry it's been such slow going for you but I think you're being a trooper! Just keep hanging in there and you'll get through it.

Hi StephS!
I just wanted to say that I was hypothyroid for about 7 years. Before I was diagnosed, I was so tired that I couldn't stay awake. It was impossible. I'd go into these really deep sleeps day and night. My joints ached something fierce, too. My hair became very brittle and I was just a wreck, and soooo depressed. After being on synthroid for awhile, I started to feel so much better. Over the years, I had to have my dose raised a few times. I just wanted to let you know that you're going to be fine. We're lucky to live in a time when there's so many good medications. I hope you are better very soon. It's so hard to care for your little ones and feel so yukky.

3 months to feel better once it's in remission!? Last time I got blood work done my EB was not getting any better - I'm sure that's why I've been so tired. The doc said I was showing anti-bodies for it though - so I guess that's good.
I hope you feel better sweetie! Are me and you the only ones here who have EB?
You know - a huge percentage of people actually carry the EB virus, but aren't affected by it. It's mainly passed through saliva, but if your immune system is strong you'll never be affected by it. But then once you get infected you've got it forever - it just comes and goes (in remission and all)....I konw you know all this Steph - but for those of you who never heard of EB (I hadn't until I got my test results).

Get better!

Hi Kandee,

The Gamma shots would be for the EBV not thyroid. It help build your immune system. My mom is going to start them too. She also has EBV.

As for the Thyroid meds....two weeks ago he changed me to the Armour...that was before he tested the blood. Now he has the blood work back and could tell the dose he gave me wasn't going to be enough. Now I'm on 1 and 1/2 grains. He said that if I'm not starting to feel any better in two weeks then he'll want to do the Gamma shots....so we can give the EBV a boost. Hes not sure as to witch one is giving me more trouble the thyroid or EBV. He doesn't want me to do more that I need to. My body is making the antibodies to fight off the EBV and I almost have control of it. Yea!!!!

Anyway....I sure hope the Armour will help. I'm pretty sure it will. He told me once we get it under control it should pretty much stay that way. I just think I'm not one for Synthoid...Im very happy to be on Armour. He said that one of my levels is at a 4 and he wants to get it to a 1 and then one of the levels is at a 1 and he wants it at a 1.25
Does this make scense to you? I get confused this is all pretty new to me....all the t4, t3, tsh levels!!!! OH...I am going to get a copy of my levels form them...I will continue to get those everytime Im tested too.

Thanks for your help Kandee!!! And your so sweet to be thinking of me!!! {{{{HUGS}}}} I hope you feel better soon. You've been going through a ruff time haven't you? Damn thyroid!!!!!

OH I almost forgot...I'm not on anything for the EBV except for high potency vitamin B and regular vitamins. Theres not really a med that you take for it. Except the Gamma shots....we'll see if I'll be taking those in a few weeks!!!! HOPE not! I'd rather not!!!

Well I've got to run.....take care!!!!

i'm soooo glad that it was your thyroid! i'm mean, i'm not--- well, you know what i mean! i'm glad it's something that you already knew about and can still treat, rather than it being something new and undiagnosed.

as for the epstein-barr.... that's a freaky illness. sorry it's going to take even longer for it to go into remission.

was your doc able to give you any suggestions for upping your energy/endurance while you wait for the meds to work and the e-b to go away?

Oh Steph,

I'm glad you clarified that about the gamma shots for the EBV. In your original post it sounded like it was for the thyroid, and that threw me off, having heard it was for the things like EBV, lupus etc.

Since your antibody levels are up with the EBV it gave me some insight into why my "good" doc wanted to check me for EBV as well. Remember, my antibodies were 8,000 where normal is 0-40. We think it is the thyroiditis that is the culprit as that is normal with the virus but still he wants to be sure there isn't something else going on as well and thats a good thing.

I have absolutley NO doubt what so ever that you won't feel amazingly better on Armour. He was sooo smart upping your dose to 1 and 1/2 of the Armour. Even though a TSH level at a "+4" is considered normal most people feel their best at between a 1 and a 2. See now why he wants you at a +1.25?
Don't worry sweetie, to much about all the other levels (T-3's, free T-4's, thyroid uptake, and all that). Just consentrate on what your your TSH level is. And when you get copies of your blood work look at it and it only and make notes on how you feel at what "TSH" level. There may even be times when you go in, once you're stable, say at a 3 month marker where they will test your "TSH" blood reading only!!! (if this doc is like I think he is however, he will do an entire thyorid panel, which gives him all the other readings I mentioned as well)...........but for all practical purposes YOU only need to know what your TSH readings are at any given time.............OK.........got that?

I'm soooo anti-Synthroid. You know they had a class action suit a few years back and patients that had been on it were awarded $$$ because of the lack of consistency in dosage. They STILL are not officially approved by the FDA.....but have been granfathered in so can't be touched.......unless by law suits like that one. Their med reps "romance" the docs so almost all of them prescribe it.

About the EBV, I didn't THINK there was anything you could take but not sure, that's why I asked. I think you need to do anything and everything to make sure you are addressing your immune system over all. I know, for one, I love Pau d' arco tea, and drink it almost every other day. It is good for infections or keeping one from getting infections. I like the traditional medicinal brand. It's sooo mild tasting and not strong like your pep/fennel type teas for IBS. Also, for you, try to keep your iron levels up too, ok?

I'm sure the gamma shots (expensive) will make a world of difference. The do for a lupus friend of mine. Glad to hear your mom is going to get them as well.

Thanks for getting back to me on this..........
I'm confident you'll do fine...........

and lots of "Huggggs" back to you too sweetie ..........

Kandee
