I have had stomach problems for as long as I can remember. Recently I was diagnosed with IBS and while I'm glad that it wasn't all in my head at the same time I feel deprived because of the limitation on fresh fruit and vegetables. Since being diagnosed I have gone through 3 different meds. Currently I am on Dyclomine (Bentyl) which was the first med I tried that had the best affect. I saw a dietician about a month ago and have been trying to stick to the diet but it is so hard. I did purchase Heather's book "Eating for IBS" and my favorite recipe out of there is the Cinnamin Zuchini Bread. I work out 5 days a week and drink 2 glasses of the Citrucel a day. I do feel better after taking the Citrucel, it allows me to stand up straight after eating without having the piercing pains in my side especially in the morning when my symptoms tend ot be worse. My symptoms are triggered by the stress that's in my life right. I work in a high stress environment(who doesn't right) and I am planning my wedding (fiance helps to). My fiance has been truely supportive. Everytime I see my doctor I just plead with him to get me through my wedding day. I have to go for my first colonoscopy at the end of April. I here the prep is worse than the procedure so if I can get through that part than I will be fine. The colonoscopy is just precautionary to make sure that there isn't anything serious going on. I have read through some of the other messages and realize that some people have it more serious that others. My doctor had me on Nortriptyline (it's an anti-depressant) for a little while which I was unaware could cause constipation. Well, I found out within 1 day of taking it that could turned into definitly causes constipation. Yeah, my other symptoms subsided but now I was taking meds to relieve the constipation. I made the mistake of taking a stimulating laxative and thought I was going to have to go to the hospital the cramping was so bad. Well, I have said enough. Being I'm still in the learning process can anyone offer suggestions for the fruit dilema. I do eat only canned right now and the occassional banana.

Janice

Smoothies, girl, that's what you need! And soups for veggies. Pureeing the fruit/veg minimises the insoluble fibre but you still get the good stuff! Also, there are some other good fruits - mango, papaya...check Heathers lists.

Welcome to the boards. Hope to see you around again. It sounds like you're doing all the right stuff. And that you've got a good doctor - lucky you! Keep it up with the soluble fibre - the longer you've been taking it the more it seems to help. That stuff is incredible!

Totally get what you mean about the wedding thing. Mine is 10th July and I am one stressed kitten right now! My family ain't exactly helping (major row at the w/e ). When's your big day? Drink all those herbal teas to keep you sane - I'm planning to have a tea table at my reception with Chamomile, decaf black and my own herbal mix available as well as normal stuff! Chamomile and peppermint are recommeded for keeping fresh breat throughout the day as well! Good luck!
