I'm still trying to narrow mine down, so I was wondering what anyone else had for their 1st dance, father/daughter, etc. I think our first dance will be a Nora Jones (I love her voice), but I'm having trouble deciding which one!

Hey Mags... this is a tough choice, huh? We didn't really have a "song" per se, because we played Ultimate Frisbee for our reception, no dancing! But at our ceremony we had our friend sing Shawn Colvin's song, "Never Saw Blue" and "In My Life" by the Beatles. And we walked down the aisle to a violin duet (more friends) of "At My Most Beautiful" by REM.
And I love Norah Jones voice too. And her name. Right now Norah is our favorite name if/when we have a girl.

....we didn't have a "first dance" or any dancing....hubby and I aren't much for dancing....but what we did was put together a video slide show of photos of us and family put to music and used Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me". Wasn't a dry eye in the church. We also had a "tissue bearer" instead of ring bearer and when she saw anyone crying she was instructed to pass out a tissue. Well, hubby got choked up and teary during his vows and she came up and gave him a tissue. So cute! Big chuckle from the guests.

Mags,
My wedding is May 15, and I have my songs picked out:
First dance: "Unchained Melody" - The Righteous Brothers

I don't remember, it was so long ago. All I remember is that the Catholic church back then wouldn't allow the all-popular Lowengren's Wedding March, much to my disappointment.
It didn't really matter, though, because I was oblivious at the time to anything around me, including the music. I'm really grateful for my wedding pictures so I can look back at what happened while I was out to lunch.

....hubby and I love "Unchained Melody". It's one of those "that's our song" moments whenever we hear it. We love the movie "Ghost"....it was part of his proposal to me.

I know, I love "Unchained Melody," too. My fiance and I really wanted to pick the perfect song that felt good to both of us. My mom had mentioned songs, but we just weren't "feeling" them. But "Unchained Melody" is just such a beautiful song and gives me chills. It's going to make my future mother-in-law cry because she says she always cries when she hears it.

maybe you'll need a "tissue bearer" like we had instead of a ring bearer.

Our wedding song my husband and I danced to was by Don Henley, called "This Love". Gosh I think that's the name of it. It was pretty popular on the radio a few years ago.
The father/daughter dance was Billy Joel, Goodnight My Angel. A real tear jerker! If you like swing dance type music Zoot Zoot Riot was so fun to dance to. It's by Cherry Poppin Daddys. I think I got that name right? It's only been a year and a half and my mind is just drawing up blanks!
I also remember requesting I Do by 98 degrees.
We had a pretty good DJ with her own bubble machine for the dance floor.

because of the time of day and location of the reception. My dear sil did decide to embarrass us by showing a video of Tory and I dancing in one of our drama group plays we did. Trust me, I'm not a good dancer so it was humorus. I guess. according to her, I didn't fake my dancing ability. I can't believe I don't remember the song. It was a Micheal W. Smith song.
"Beautiful in my eyes" by Joshua Kadison? was playing a lot when we were first dating (10 years ago) and that was our song for a long time. We might have used that one.

Parents Dance (Don and his mom and Me and My dad): "Butterfly Kisses" - Bob Carlyle
Wedding Party Dance (our entire wedding party and ourselves) "I Hope You Dance" - LeeAnne Womack. We thought it was a good kick off with the dance and thank you to all the wedding party for being there for us.

Believe it or not, that is kinda "our song", but in a silly kinda way. Way back when we first started dating (and yes, just before being blessed with IBS ), we were parked down at the river talking for hours, and that song came on and I said, "Oh God, this song is so corny!" (No offense Shell!!), and Chris said, "This is a good song! I like this song!!" Anyway, it's always been a joke between us. I even downloaded it a long time ago for him! LOL Every time I hear this song I just think of that night. As a matter of fact, Chris tried to take me back there to propose to me, but every time he tried there were always people fishing back there. Oh well...

Ultimate Frisbee? LOL That must have been awesome! I'm not really into dancing either, so that sounds like a blast!
Nora Jones rocks! I really like "What am I to you?" I think all the lyrics would be a great 1st dance song, except for the "What am I to you?" line - after the vows is a little late in the game to be asking that! LOL

Well... you could think of it in an Elizabeth Barrett Browning... "How do I love thee... let me count the ways" kind of way. "What am I to you?" "O you are the sun! The moon!" Well... you get my point.
And yeah, Ultimate Frisbee was awesome. We have HILARIOUS wedding photos. A whole sequence of me getting pegged in the boob with a frisbee and collapsing and a near brawl that broke out over the other team cheating. It was fun!

My dad and stepmom had "From this Moment" by Shania Twain. They actually never chose the song, my sister and I did. We were insistant that they had "a song" so Dad appointed that to be "our job" LOL
That is a beautiful song though. If you are still scrounging for ideas LOL

ROFL - that sounds hilarious!! You have to post a good pic if you get a chance!
Do you really think that song could work? I've been debating it, but wasn't sure. I never thought of it in the "How do I love thee" kinda way, but I like it! And you know, isn't it funny once someone points it out to you, it seems so blatantly obvious? I love that about these boards - you guys are always such a big help!
