Hey everyone...
Just wanted to share the exciting news!! A friend of mine that I've known for 10 years has invited me on a date tonight!! It's nothing romantic or anything....but he knows I've been a little down lately cuz of my break up and after I swore I was never gonna date again....he convinced me to go on a date with him!!
Just a friendly date but still a date...and I'm excited!! I think we're going skating....yahoo!!!
Anyway...I'll let you all know how it goes....

Are you sure it's "just a date" to him!?!?!?!!??!? Sounds like maybe someone's been waiting for you to be single????
That's awesome. I'm so happy you're going out.
I remember dates.... They're those things you do with a cute boy, right? Hmmm... sounds vaguely familiar.... I'm trying to recall. It's been so long!
HAVE FUN!!!

I bet he wants to be more than a friend too. He's just scared to admit it straight out.

I agree with everyone. But I think that your kind of date is the best to go on because you already know everything about each other! Have fun and let us know how it goes!!

I agree with everyone else about more than just friends, that's sweet, can't wait to hear how it goes.
Over here, people mostly don't do dates. I think Gwyneth Paltrow got herself into a bit of trouble with the press commenting on how the British don't date, but it's true!!! Over here, if you ask someone out, you're sort of asking them to be your boy/girlfriend. People just sort of get to know each other a bit first - through school, work, friends, clubs and so on and so when someone asks you out it's really quite a big deal.
Problem is there are whole groups of people in their 20's, 30's and beyond who then get settled in their jobs, hobbies, groups of friends and whatever, and then say: "I never meet anyone".
Of course, things are changing a bit - people are going to singles events and speed-dating dinner parties and so on to try to meet people. And some people do date, but that's not generally the rule over here.
As for me, I still prefer the old way - get to know someone more as a friend first. I think dating is best, but I couldn't take the pressure!! Now that my mindset is firmly in the 'asking someone out is a huge deal' camp, it's too much for me to cope with to just go on dates with people you barely know, but if you've grown up with that, it must be far easier! Go for it and have a great time

Kimm, that's so exciting! How sweet of him to think of you while you're down. A date with a friend is the best kind if you ask me... you don't have to worry about impressing one another! I hope you have a fantastic time, and let us know how it goes!

Shells... my flatmate got herself into trouble when she went on a casual date with someone, or well, what she thought was a casual date, and he was interested in WAY more than she was.
