why nobody is mentioning it? I'm letting mine grow a little bit. It's still not going to be longer than my neck line, but more body in back and am letting it grow over my ears so that I can tuck it behind them. When I let it grow like this it gets wavier and I like it that way. But, nobody has said anything about it....nobody here at work, hubby, mother-in-law....nobody. I mentioned it to my mom and she was kind enough to say that she liked it but just thought maybe I was in-between haircuts. I think it looks nice, but with nobody saying anything about it...it makes me wonder. Ya know? I've had it real short for about 10 years and am always nervous about trying something new.

That stinks, doesn't it?
The last time I cut my hair (7 inches!) and colored it (from red to brown!), no one said a thing. I was thinking..."there's no way you people haven't noticed!!!"
Makes you feel like you've made a mistake and no one wants to tell you, doesn't it!?
Oh well. I'm sure it looks nice, Nugget! Just always remember: PEOPLE ARE STRANGE!

Thanks Jen.....I liked your little graphic. It does make me feel like I made a mistake, but nothing a haircut won't cure. My husband is growing his mustache again....he has always had a mustache, but he is letting the ends grow long again. I think he looks much more handsome when it is trimmed and have told him, but he's lettin it grow anyway. Maybe I'll let my hair grow til he trims his mustache.
Hey, How was your birthday....didn't you have one on the 3rd?

I KNOW the feeling...I went from short (almost shaved hair w/tail) in 1987-1990 to letting it grow out... to just past the shoulders. It was long enough to perm and I got a few comments then. Then in 1993 I cut it back to shoulder length nobody noticed.... (or they did and just did not like it, nor did I) so they did not say anything. When I finally started to grow my bangs out (I hated that stage of what the heck do I do with these semi long things) until it got long enough to go behind the ear..... now the only people that comment are those that don't see me everyday or everyweek.... they say, wow your hair is long. BUT NOBODY notices when I spend over $100 to have it foiled either!! GRUMP!! Well, except hubby...but I think the only reason he notices is because I not home right after work to make his dinner!! I did have a birthday. It was March 3rd. Thanks for remembering.
It was ok. I got a little depressed early in the day. Don't know what that was about! It wasn't about getting older, either. It was 'cause I couldn't binge and treat myself to bad foods! I was in a gas station and saw the donuts, ice cream, sodas... Not that I wanted all of them! I just wanted something fun and naughty!
Ah, well... Whatcha gonna do? I got over it. Then I ate too much pumpkin cheesecake and got a little sick just from the sheer quantity I shoved in my greedy little mouth! Serves me right! GLUTTON!

Nugget, you are such a cutie, I imagine it doesn't matter what you do to your hair, because in everyone's eyes you're just as cute, regardless.
I would not take it personally -- everyone is seeing you as the darling young lady you've always been.
Also, people who see you every day see your hair growing out so gradually that you just look the same to them from day-to-day. I recall a young lady in my last office who let her hair grow out, and it wasn't until it got to be shoulder length that I suddenly took notice and said, "Hey! Your hair got long!" Duh. But to me, she was always the young attractive gal -- maybe because of her terrific personality, I just never really paid much attention to her outward appearance.
Now, Miss Nugget -- when you have your hair the length you want, and the style you want, you realize, of course, you have to post a new picture of yourself, Girlfriend!

Oh WOW, does this bring back memories! Duck Tails!
When I was in junior high school, I had a duck tail. Yep. I thought I was so cool. I kept a hairbrush in my back pocket at all times -- even at dances -- so I could brush my hair up, just like my idol, Doris, used to do hers. She was so neat, I wanted to be just like her! DTs were all the rage. Hey, those things are hard to maintain! You have to constantly brush your hair UP in the back. The hair is cut real short on top, longer at the nape, so that it's brushed UP, just like the rear of a duck.
Now, some kids preferred a DA It's a duck's a--. Really. I'm not kidding. For a DA, you have to cut the hair differently, such that there's a "seam" right down the middle of the back of the head, and the hair is brushed away from the sides and "into" that seam. A DA is a lot easier to maintain than a DT.
How'd I get started on this?

I didn't mean to get a duck tail....it's just the way my hair is going right now. I don't know why she had to say that.....but yet, this is the lady who, when I was planning our wedding 6 years ago and showed her a pture of the wedding dress I had picked out and was so proud of...she said "It doesn't look like you." Boy is she going to be surprised when my hair gets the way I want it and it looks so much better than hers! Hey it looks better than hers already!

Why is that? Why do we get so fixated with our hair? Why not our nails? Or our makeup? Maybe our clothes? Our boobs? (Okay, lets not go there.)
But, really, think about it -- whenever we need a "fix," we turn to our hair. I noticed sometime ago that my fix always comes at the same time of the year -- always FEBRUARY! -- I think it has to have something to do with the distance of the sun from the planet. The earth's pull? Okay, I have no idea what I'm talking about now....

Hair is easy to change... and if it goes horribly awry it grows back in fairly quickly. Its harder to get fixated on clothes because then you get fixated on body flaws which would require dieting and blah blah blah. It's sort of like no matter how fat you feel you can always shoe shop because your feet don't change size!

I don't plan on growing it past my neck line, but it is "fuller" than I have had it in a long time and if I can make it to the length I am going for, it will be grown over my ears. Haven't done that for years. We'll see how it goes. My hairdresser said that in the stages between now and when it gets to the length I'm going for over my ears....she claims I will be cussing her. Ha!

HI Nugget; I keep following this post.I too am trying to grow my hair to my shoulders, again. My hair was way short before and have tried many times to let it grow out. This time I have not given up and said CUT IT OFF. I am at the stage where it looks, uumm, "Not sure what kind of style it is"phase. It is now long enough on the sides to tuck behind my ears,so far so good. The back is almost to my shoulders,I think I need it trimmed there. To keep it looking presentable is to wet it, mousse it, and blow dry it while pull brushing to curl it under. My hair is natural curly (wavy) so most times it has a mind of its own. My husband asked the other day "Is it not time for you to get a haircut?" I told him I was letting it grow. He just laughed, cause he knows I never really go for it. I am going to prove him wrong this time,(typing as I cross my fingers) . Good luck to you and don't listen to what others say. You do what you want to do, and who cares what other people say of do!!! thanks for the vote of confidence, Sue. What you wrote sounds so much like what I have gone through in the past when I've tried to grow it out. I end up getting frustrated and saying "Just cut it off!" But I am determined to not do that this time! (I find it hard to type when I have my fingers crossed. ha!) Mine, too is at that stage where it doesn't really have a style.

You're in major luck! I happen to be a complete and utter fashion magazine addict. Pathetic, actually.
But anyway... for the last few months (and I'm sure for the next few, too), it's been quite stylish to have actual haircuts that look (to me) like growing out hair!! Just don't let it turn into a mullet--- that's NEVER good.
There's tons of great products out there (even in the grocery stores and places like Rite Aid and CVS and Walgreens). While it's growing, experiment. And remind yourself- tussled is sexy!!!

I never wear skirts 'cause I've been...er..."gifted" with heavy legs. They're not obscenely huge or anything, but they're proportionately large-- as if I had been a dancer or powerlifter at some point in my life! At least they're a lovely shape (with actual ankles and curvy calves, so it could be worse), even if they are sturdier than need be!!
Anyway, I've gotten over hiding them and have bought a few skirts that don't touch my toes. (!) I wore one today and think I look quite lovely, thank you very much. But one of my ig'nant coworkers said "Jen, I didn't know you had such big legs!"
What do you say to something like that!?!?!?!

They are the one part of my body I hate the mostest....other than my kangaroo pouch for a tummy. Speaking of which I did some sit-ups this weekend and my tummy muscles are telling me about it. Anyway back to the big leg topic....my mom says I got her legs and I say "Thanks alot, mom."

I don't know why I'm always surprised at people. You'd think by this time in my life I'd have seen and heard just about everything -- and yet I'm constantly disappointed in people. I don't know if you read one of my past posts about this -- if so, you're gonna hear it again -- it bears repeating. My old boss in SF wrote me a note one time when I was down about someone who had been rude to me; I kept it all these years and still have it -- because it meant so much to me, and because it's true:
"It is a mistake to go through life expecting the rest of the world to be as nice as you are."
This person who said that to you, Jen, is jealous because of all the marvelous weight you lost (40 pounds is VERY impressive, Girlfriend! -- I wish I could lose it!). Being the pretty lady that you are, she didn't need much encouragement, but the weight loss probably put her over the edge. She couldn't find any fault with you -- and it no doubt drove her crazy -- until today. My reaction to her would have been (although I would not have said it): "yeah, nobody's perfect; you just proved that by opening your big mouth!"

Thanks. 40 pounds IS a lot! my goal is this:
but I'm not quite there yet!
Here's how I did it.....
ready???
I got IBS!
Not kidding. I got sick so much last year that I wasn't eating for considerable stretches of time while I laid around feeling like dirt! I lost about 35 of it that way.
HOWEVER, I'm considerably proud of myself for keeping it off! That's not as easy as how I lost it! I'm planning on losing another 10 or so, but I'm waiting 'til I get stable with the IBS before I tinker with the system! Anyway, I can't exactly cut calories- I barely get any in now. I'd have to exercise more to do it, and I have NOT got the energy for that right now!
Anyway, blah-blah-blah!
Thanks for the compliments.
Wish I were in Connecticut!

I tend to stay around the same weight now and try not to over-eat. Today is kind of a rough day for some reason. Not real bad....just kind of "gassy" feeling and frequent trips with little bm's ...(gross I know)

I'm in pants today, but ONLY because it's COLD today!!! (Of course, I'm wearing a suit and someone asked -in a snarky tone- "What are you so dressed up for?" I said "Cause I've lost 40 pounds and I decided to flaunt it in a great suit." Don't think she liked that answer, but I thought it was funny!)
The picture wasn't really of me--- it's an animation I got on the web of some skinny little show-off in a bikini! (That's not really my goal, just a little joke!)
Remember, tussled = sexy! Who needs a curling iron!? (I can say this 'cause I have big hair today that looks like I just rolled out of bed. Point is: I'm sure hoping tussled = sexy!)

Good luck with your GI doc. I hate going to the doc. It always gets me "worked up". Luckily I haven't had to go in over a year. I just had my blood drawn last week for an upcoming local Health Fair, though and the doc gets those results and goes over them with me. So hopefully all is well there.

You really think it's flattering to my legs? If it were only that easy to have nice legs. One other thing I'm finding with this new longer hair is grey! Or as I like to call it....light black. I'm very grey for my age....but it doesn't really bother me. My husband likes it because it looks kind of frosted. But, the longer it gets the greyer it gets I think. I don't really want to color it though. My family all turned grey early on.

I've been coloring my hair since I was 16. (I'm 33) (Not all based on the thought that it will make my legs cuter, but it's a nice theory and as good as any.)
I have actually gone back close to natural--- a brown with hilites, and am letting the roots grow out. I'm keeping the hilites, though. Can't give up color all together--- It's not in my nature!
I have ONE gray hair (that I can see). Mind you, there may be tons more that are still hiding in the dye. But this one little stinker is right on the top at the part. Ah, well, it goes with the crinkles around my eyes! It's a matched set....
I like gray hair, though. I think it often looks really nice and helps soften a woman's appearance at a time when she may start to look more angular due to the normal old aging process.
Or am I kidding myself!?

It's sweet of you to ask.
It was about predictable. I went to ask questions about celiac and other forms of gluten intolerance. Apparently that was asking too much. He seemed disinterestd in both IBS and celiac.
What got me was the nonsensical wishy-washyness. "Well, you had a negative celiac test, but there are false-positives. We could start you on a new antidepressant at a low dose and/or do an endoscopy and biopsy to test for celiac." OK, well I'll do anything that will help, I said. "Well, let's do the antidepressant, 'cause you probably don't have celiac." Well, why am I better now that I gave up wheat? Could I have an allergy or intolerance to gluten? "That's what celiac is- an allergy. But food allergies are over-diagnosed. Most diagnoses of food allergies are just bogus." So WHY AM I BETTER NOW THAT I GAVE UP THE DANG WHEAT!?!?!?!
So I asked if I should eat wheat again, then, or stay off of it. His reply? "No, stay off the wheat."
So how am I supposed to know if it's the antidepressant or the lack of wheat or the next full moon that does or does not make me better!?
Who knows.
Thanks for listening, Nugget.

Don't you just hate it when it seems the docs aren't taking you seriously!? I had a doc once who gave me that impression (that he wasn't taking me seriously) so my sweet husband convinced me to change docs and now we have one who even my husband will go see. That says alot when my husband thinks enough of a doc to go see him!
I think if you have been feeling better by staying off the wheat it would be a good idea to stay off of it. I used to take Centrum vitamin once a day religiously. Until one day my Mother-in-law and I were talking about vitamins and something clicked that maybe that was part of my problem. I haven't taken a Centrum for quite a few months now and have noticed a big difference. Sometimes we just have to ignore what the docs say and listen to our own bodies I think.

I'm big on that-- listening to my body. I think I'm better without wheat, so I'm not gonna eat it, but it's nice to have a test that concurs... Especially since the daggone IBS has no test! But still, I'll do what my body tells me to do. Crud, at this point I'm mostly frustrated that we know more than the docs do.
I haven't even told anyone the worst part yet, the part that made me really really frustrated that I was being blown off.
Guess who my Doc is???
The guy who wrote the forward for The First Year: IBS .
Can you believe it!? I'm going to ask Heather about him. This was the first appt. I had with the guy and maybe I caught him on a bad day (?). I had been seeing his partner and was frustrated with him, so I switched to Dr Posner. I was unimpressed!
I hate Doctor shopping. I will do it, but I was really hopefull about Dr. Posner considering the whole "write a foreward for the book that's my new IBS bible thing."
ARGH!!!!

That IS frustrating. I don't have the "First Year" book.
I hope it gets better for you and that you can find a good doc that will listen. I agree....we know more sometimes than the docs do.
