I am on week two of taking BC for the first time in ten years and decided to stop taking them. I thought my husband was going to have to commit me yesterday due to my emotions.
I cried over the littlest things yesterday and than get really angry for no reason. Any type of noise gave me a headache.
I called my GYN's office this morning and still haven't heard back, but did tell the nurse I won't take anymore until my GYN calls back.
Has anybody experience extreme emotions on the pill?

Oh yeah, big time. I can't take them and I will not take them. My sister had the same problem. It is so hard to feel that way and then lose it with you family. They definately didn't help my PPD after Meike. I know it is hard for you because you are trying to stop you cycle. I hope the dr. calls back and gives you some more options.

I was like that for the first three months as it took a while for my body to adjust to the extra hormones. Hope your doctor can solve your problem!

I had the exact same emotions after my surgery when I was thrown into an extreme and very early menopause; you will recall my e-mail, Barbara?
I cried every morning in the shower, uncontrollably, for absolutely no reason whatsoever. If anyone looked at me and smiled, I broke out in tears. One time at a Weight Watcher's meeting they asked me a question; I stood up to answer but instead of words coming out of my mouth I broke out in tears, then ran from the room, crying hysterically. How horrible!
It's hormones, Girlfriend! I was sent to U.C.S.F. Medical Center to a OBGYN with specialty in my problem. They put me on estrogen, progesterone, even testosterone. I took pills, patches, and shots.
It took a LOT of trial-and-error to get my hormones under control -- but look at me now! I can actually write this without tears rolling down my face!
I still get headaches occasionally, and I wake up every night with sweats like you wouldn't believe -- my hair dripping wet, my pillow soaked.
And mood swings -- yep, you bet! I don't think it's birth control pills -- I've never taken any -- It's hormones! 
In my next life, I'm coming back as a male.

Call me chicken - can't do that for three months. LOL
The nurse called me back late and my GYN won't be in until today, so hopefully she can figure it out.

Wow - so you couldn't take them either. I was under the impression bith control will help stablize emotions, but in our case it doesn't. 
The nurse talked to me aobut taking meds durning PMS that might help. My GYN will be in later today.

What kind of blood tests did your doctor order to figure out which hormones are imbalanced?
BTW I'm glad you can post on this board without crying. What would we do without your sense of humor?

This was the only way I could talk to you. I have great news I heard the heart beat today and everything seems to be fine. Doc suggested some of the foods that I do not usualy eat to help with the C. I would love nothing more than a big salad with lots of dressing. I tryed to send you a message and it would not let me. Just wanted to let you know Hope things are well with you

Barbara, you are such a sweetie. I wish you could have the time to post more often.
Gee, I don't remember the tests. It was so long ago, and I was in a fog all those years. It was really an awful time for me. I'm sorry; I wish I knew so I could help you.
Did you hear the latest news this morning? They're going to remove hormone replacement therapy from the market, claiming it causes strokes! OMG! What will we do then?!? Do you know what I'm like without my estrogen? It's not pretty.

Did the doctor call you back yet? I actually took the pill for 6 months and I never felt better. I also had headaches everyday. Maybe it was worse because if forced my hormones to regulate when they weren't ready. Meike was 4 months old and I had just stopped nursing the month before. If you can find something else that will help I would do that.

I love hearing the little heartbeat beating away. I have my first appointment next Thursday and I am wondering if we will hear it or not. I will be 8 1/2 weeks so it might be hard to find and hear it.

Do they have plans for something to else? I can't even imagine. I know there are a lot of woman that rely on it and I have seen how awful it is for woman who haven't been able to take it. I feel bad for husbands. How will they survive?

They better not take that away from you. We want you on the boards happy and I'm sure hubby likes you happy.
My GYN called today and doesn't have much advice for me, except to call my GP and talk to him about switching Anit-D. She doesn't feel that BCP can cause my symptoms, but we all know Torbetta can't take them either.
Next week some time I'll call my GP, but in the mean time I will do a search about natural alternatives to deal with PMS. Hopefully I find safe and effective solutions.

I just remember some other people on the board talking about other ways to stop periods. Did you try the pill so your IBS would be better or for the hormones? My IBS was actually worse on the pill. I was so afraid of getting pregnant at the time that we decided to try the pill. I actually took it when we were first married and did fine. Once I stopped I felt like myself again. We decided not to use any medication type birth control. I just don't trust them. I still had to deal with PMS but at least I felt normal most of the time. I think my husband is begining to question why we wanted another child though   hehehe. Talk about hormones. I feel a bit better this week. I guess it doesn't hurt that Tory is trying to help me out with everything. What a sweety. Why didn't he do that when I was pregnant with Meike? I feel like it is my first all over again. Anyways, did that answer your question?

Soz you're having trouble with your hormones right now - those things are a NIGHTMARE!
You're trying to stop your cycle, aren't you? Has your doc suggested Depo-Provera? It's what I'm on - it's progesterone only (which I need cos of migraines) so maybe that would be easier on you. I certainly have no problems at all with it and no periods (with no PMS, no cramps) is so great. Ask your doc maybe?

I don't know; the news didn't say. All they said was that they have found estrogen, especially when combined with progesterone, causes strokes in women. Taken by itself, estrogen isn't as bad but is still too dangerous over a long period of time.
Great news, eh? I don't know what I'm going to do -- when I'm out of estrogen, you don't want to be anywhere near me!

I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone.
I think I'm freaking my dear, sweet fiance out. Two weeks before I get my period I turn into this sensitive, emotional, well....girl! It used to take a lot to get me to cry. My family would gauge the sad-factor of movies and plays based on whether or not Julie would cry. If I did, then they definitely needed to bring the tissues.
Now, one cross word will send me into an emotional state. I can't stand it any more. The big fights my fiance and I have all have taken place one week before my period.
It is so frustrating. I'm not on any BCP because the hormones turn me into a bee-yatch. I tried the Depo shot...whoa! I tried the Nuva Ring, yowzer! (plus I bled for 18 days straight, seriously). I haven't been on any BCP since being diagnosed with IBS.
I feel so horrible that I can turn into this crazy person. I told DF during our last fight that I was so emotional at times that if he looked at me funny, I felt like crying. I think that really hurt him. But he really doesn't understand the female issues that I'm dealing with (never mind IBS).
Are there any herbs out there that can help with PMS? I went throught this a couple of years ago. I honestly thought I was depressed. But I guess that it sort of phased itself out.
Now it's back. Grrrr......... <sigh>
Thanks for letting me vent and for any advice, info you can give me.

Hi Linz,
I'm suppose to take BCP to stop peroids, but I've heard more bad stories about Depo-Provera and am too afraid to use it. Plus my GYN never suggested it. It is great you are doing well with it.
Like you Heidi I never had problems with BCP over ten years ago when taking it - only problem was constant yeast infections.
I haven't found my GYN very helpful. I asked her if there is blood work to check my hormone levels and she said no. I asked her if it is possible I'm in perimenopause and she it is possible. My feeling is than there should be blood drawn to check.
She told me it will take a week to stablize, since I stopped taking the pill after a week. I just woke up from a 2 1/2 hour nap, because I'm so tired and slept through my class. I haven't stopped bleeding for elevan days.
I plan to call my GP next week, because he is always so helpful and seems to know all the answers to my questions. See if he can help me feel better.

Bev what are the plans than to help women like you all over the world? There has to be a solution that will work.
What will this world be like with women and no estrogen?
I'm sorry you have to go through this. Hope your doctor can figure something out for you. Besides we want to see your nice personality on the board - not the other evil side of you. LOL

Hi Jules,
My GYN told me to take daily calcium supplements with vitamin D, multi vitamen with B complex in it. I also read adding two TBS of flaxseed meal to your cereal is suppose to help.
I'm doing some research when time allows and trying to figure out how to handle my messed up hormones. Hopefully I can find good information.

I saw this news report on several different stations, and in each instance they did not say what would replace the estrogen, if anything. They have to do something; they can't just leave us out to dry (literally!)!
You're right -- you don't want to see my evil side! If this all comes about, I don't think hubby will want anything to do with me -- I'll be left with only my beloved Jack to keep me company! Oh yeah, and also those garden worms....

ELEVEN DAYS?!? You're right; it doesn't sound like your gyn is very helpful; good thing you have a good GP -- but do you have to wait that long to see him?

My Mum used to take loads of Evening Primrose Oil. This is really supposed to help PMS. And now she takes Bach's Rescue Remedy for general being stressed/emotional.

I've been really suprprised at all these bad stories from Depo. I love the stuff. Your GYN might not have suggested it as it's usually only the first choice for people like me who can't have oestrogen (migraines!).
