I am new to this web site and from what I have read so far everyones IBS symtoms have gotten better with pregnancy. I am considering my third child and the only thing holding me back is my IBS. When I am not pregnant I have IBS with diarrehea. When pregnant I am severly constipated for days and days with terrible cramping that cant be relieved until I finally go or throw up. This kindof makes me a prisoner to my house for nine months. The doctor never helped he suggested laxatives which made the gas and cramping worse with no results. Can anyone relate to this or do you have any answers that could help before I go through this again?

During my first pregnancy, my ibs just seemed the same. Two years after I had my son, my ibs went into "remission" and I barely had any problems until I became pregnant with my daughter and it came back with a vengeance. At least I thought it was ibs. I started to lose weight, I couldn't eat, until I went to this wonderful GI physician's assistant and she thought it might be reflux. When I was about 6 months pregnant, she put me on Aciphex for the reflux and I improved over night. I did not have any problems for the remainder of my pregnancy. She told me that when you have reflux (mine was caused by the weight of my baby pressing on my stomach) it can upset your entire GI tract. By treating the reflux the rest of the symptoms went away (bloating, diarrhea) Oh, and I did not have any of the common symptoms of reflux (the burning pain or acid taste) mine was asymptomatic (if you don't count the problems it caused in my bowels). hope this helps

Hi. This is my 3rd child since I have had IBS and the last. My last pregnancy it got better after the 5 month but this time is has been so hard.

It got better, than worse, than better. Right now I am in early labor which can go on for 2 weeks and my stomach is killing me. I have the IBS-D. My GI won't let me take anything for it! My OBGYN felt bad for me and gave me a few Tylenol 3. Said I cannot take anymore than 4 a week. Uh. It helps somewhat. Slows the tummy down. It is just amazing, that everything is so smashed up right now and that I can still have the big D with those cramps and all.

It was so bad the other night, I thought I was in hard labor. Don't you find it hard to tell apart sometimes because it is so similar? god help us all.

What has helped with anyone else?

Marcy.
