My longest was 8 years! I know, Ewwww! But it was from middle school to high school. I got my eye teeth pulled out when I was in Grade 9. The dentist wanted to brace them and my dad wanted them pulled so they started to argue. The dentist got so mad at my dad that he just pulled the teeth with hardly any freezing.

There were bruises around my mouth for quite a few days. So needless to say, I wasn't keen on dentists for a while.

But I have now found a wonderful dentist. The entire office staff there is so great and I can't complain.

Don't worry about it. It will be ok. And if he gives you crap...just let it roll off your back. The worst he is gonna say is "Not good" And then you walk out the door. Oh well!

I was just at the dentist yesterday, don't be afraid! I have a love hate relationship with mine, I love them because they're making my teeth straight, but hate them because it's taking so long. My last appointment was to get a titanium screw implanted in my jaw for a permanent tooth replacement. If I can handle them drilling in my mouth for an hour, you visit should be a piece of cake!

I was embarrassed to say, but approximately 15 years for me. I took good care of my teeth, though....flossing, brushing, etc., etc. I was scared of dentists because of an incident when I was young. A hygenist scolded me when I twitched when she poked my gum with one of her instruments...she said "Oh, that didn't hurt!" Well, that said to a very shy child isn't good. It took me 15 years to get the courage up to go. I didn't have any fillings and nothing bothered me...I went in for a cleaning and only had 9 small cavities that they fixed. I have been going every six months since then for cleanings and no new cavities. The dentist always comments on how good my teeth are. I am lucky to have found a good dentist. I don't even get scared any more.

Just try to stay calm and if your dentist gives you a hard time....find a new one.

Everything will be ok and your health will thank you for it, too.

Come on, Steph. If you can tolerate IBS, you can tolerate a little drilling. Just sit in that chair and take it -- and thank your lucky stars it's not an attack.

I go every 6 months like clockwork. My gums are soft because of all the estrogen I have to take. Every time the dentist pokes, they bleed. It hurts like hell. But I'll take it any day over an IBS attack.

You go, Girl!

I didn't go for 10 yrs when I was younger because my dad was switching insurance too much. Got a lot of cavaties done when I finally did see one - but they weren't too bad.

I always take 2 tablets of valium that my dentist prescribes and then the gas just to get the numbing shot (needle phobia). Once that's done, I pop on my headphones and CD player and crank it up. The drilling doesn't bother me because I'm drugged, numb, and deaf.

So happy teeth cleaning for me!! I'm sure I'll have to go back for cavities!!!

Thanks!

Good luck Steph.

I have been spending a lot of time at the dentist lately. I have so many regrets about not taking care of my teeth when I was younger. When I got married I was able to get on to my husband's dental insurance plus I still have my own to help cover the expensive things like crowns. So luckily I'm not going broke!
