I am telling my husband he has to make the Peppermint Fudge Cake. We will see if that happens. I hope this year I get a present I can use. Last year My husband bought me a CD player for my van and he never installed it. Plus he didn't want to pay alot of money for a cake, so he bought me a Barbie Doll cake that was a day old. I think this year I should buy my own presents and wrap them so I have something to open on my birthday that I can use

Ruchie--my cousins are the same way--same birthday, two years apart (October 6th, for them, I think). Mine, by the way, is October 28th. In high school, one of my friends had her birthday on October 8th, so sometime in between we'd have a joint birthday party. They were so much fun! I think we had three of them...maybe four...we have these terrific photos of the nerdy guys we dated and everything. Now I'm only four years out of high school, but my best friend is getting married next week! I guess I'm not a baby anymore....

Ok, Google wins again. I was right, more or less... here you go (it's long):
Quote:
In 1605, Guy Fawkes (also known as Guido - yes, really) and a group of conspirators attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament.
After Queen Elizabeth I died in 1603, English Catholics who had had a rough time under her reign had hoped that her successor, James I, would be more tolerant of their religion. Alas, he was not, and this angered a number of young men who decided that violent action was the answer.
One young man in particular, Robert Catesby suggested to some close friends that the thing to do was to blow up the Houses of Parliament. In doing so, they would kill the King, maybe even the Prince of Wales, and the Members of Parliament who were making life difficult for the Catholics. Today these conspirators would be known as extremists, or terrorists.
To carry out their plan, the conspirators got hold of 36 barrels of gunpowder - and stored it in a cellar, just under the House of Lords.
But as the group worked on the plot, it became clear that some innocent people would be hurt or killed in the attack. Some of the plotters started having second thoughts. One of the group members even sent an anonymous letter warning his friend, Lord Monteagle, to stay away from the Parliament on November 5th. Was the letter real?
The warning letter reached the King, and the King's forces made plans to stop the conspirators.
Guy Fawkes, who was in the cellar of the parliament with the 36 barrels of gunpowder when the authorities stormed it in the early hours of November 5th, was caught, tortured and executed.
It's unclear if the conspirators would ever have been able to pull off their plan to blow up the Parliament even if they had not been betrayed - some people think the gunpowder they were planning to use was so old as to be useless. Since Guy Fawkes and his colleagues got caught before trying to ignite the powder, we'll never know for certain.
These days, Guy Fawkes Day is also known as Bonfire Night. The event is commemorated every year with fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire.
Some of the English have been known to wonder whether they are celebrating Fawkes' execution or honoring his attempt to do away with the government.

did you get it all. Well, yeah, most of it (while I was fast asleep in bed - I wish I was in the same time zone as all of you, I always have to catch up in the morning!!).
Anyway, Yep BONFIRE NIGHT is traditionally a celebration of the capture and killing of Guy Fawkes, who threatened Parliament, the Monarchy and the glory of England as it was!!! Hence bonfires, fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes himself (yes, it is rather sick and twisted!). BUT.....
A bit more mindless info: WHO REALLY DUNNIT? IT WAS A SET-UP AND POOR GUY FAWKES WAS THE SCAPEGOAT....
Rumour has it that Guy Fawkes (who certainly did try to blow up the Houses of Parliament) genuinely thought he was doing it to help the Catholic cause in England. The saying goes that Guy Fawkes was the only man EVER to enter parliament with HONEST intentions!!!
Chinagirl was right - the leader of the GUNPOWDER PLOT was Robert Catesby. Guy F was fighting as a soldier for the Spanish army when the plot was dreamed up and was smuggled back into England to help because he was an explosives expert.
Guy Fawkes was caught at least 12 hours before Parliament were due to meet the king - but mysteriously the King's men had been 'tipped' off. The king was never in any danger...hmmmm.....
Rumour has it that the ultimate plotter was King James himself (shock horror!). When he first arrived in England he wasn't very popular - so he cooked up a plot to set up an attempt (failed, of course!) on his own life, and unite his people in support of him and against his enemies -(the Catholics)- perfect.
Guy Fawkes was never burned on a bonfire!! Burning was only used to punish crimes against the Church. As Guy was guilty of treason he was 'hung, drawn and quartered' (know what that is? Ew Ew Eeeewwww!) (after being tortured for several days already). Luckily Guy F was not sooooo stupid and jumped at the hanging stage so his neck broke and he never had to suffer the agony of being drawn and quartered. YUKKKKKKKKY
Oh, the rest of the plotters fled up north. Some bright spark decided to dry out some damp gunpowder in front of the fire - BANG! The few that were left after that BANG were also hung, drawn and quartered. Poor souls!
OK that's the end of my little history lesson, except.....
Remember, remember the 5th of November, Gunpowder, treason and plot. Was Guy Fawkes a devil, the Stuarts all saints? Are we glad that they stopped him....or not?!

And when is there going to be a chat room? From how some of the posts appear to get posted at the same time, it looks like some of us are on line at identical times of the day!!!

To look at your life you'd think you were 60 years old with all the experience you've had, but then "darling daughter" of mine is like you and has done so many things, and done them so well...it's amazing to most of us, really!!! I know how you Gemini's get bored easily...well, not really bored, let's say you're just not happy unless you are challanged!! But then we all have to remember there are 2 of you...........and those twins are often at odds with each other. I see a lot of passion in whatever it is you are doing at the time, right?

That's how we met. I had flowers and all that in my office and he came down and saw it all. He asked me about it and I told him it was my birthday... and we started talking about the coincidence. We were friends first - but that's how it all got started. He is six years older than I am - but we were both born on Sept 13th. (I was born on a Monday by the way) I'll be 33 this year.

Thanks!
Do you know how to post links? Well, I just went to everyone's profile, and linked to it. Does that make sense?
Did you ever read UBBCode in your posts ? When you post a message, there's always a link for it across the top (in the light blue bar). It shows how to do lists, and if you scroll down a little, you can read about posts.
I don't ever use list start or list end, but sometimes I use List Item. It makes a bulleted list. Just click on it, type your first item, click it again, type second item, etc.
I've only seen one poll - that was for if we wanted the private messaging activated. See Let's take a poll .
BTW: If private messaging was activated, you could see your others online and 'chat' with them through instant message. It is activated on the IBS Support Groups boards if you want to use it over there. As you can see, Heather had a few concerns about it, and wasn't going to activate it here unless people could shut it off, but you can disable it on the IBS Support Boards, so I don't know why you couldn't do it on these boards.

Thanks Mags,
No, I hadn't seen the UBBC in Your Posts section option. Guess I didn't even click the bar to find out more. Didn't know you could click on it and the info would pop up. Dummy me.
I forgot about the instant messaging feature, but nice that it can be turned off if one wants to do so. Don't know why I felt there needed to be a special chat room. This other way makes more sense.
Still not real clear on how you linked profiles to birth dates, but then I don't really have to, since all that matters is that you do!!! Glad you're the smart one around here. Do you intend to put something, somewhere in the living room section, say at the very beginning of all the posts, that one can click on quickly to go in and see when someone's birthday is? Or, would we have to go to search, and choose living room and type "birthdays" in?
I know this is stretching it, and heaven knows you have so much work as it is , but was there ever something in the works for a listing of the IBS safe foods on the market, sorta like you list the members recipes...say for items like Baked Lays, Bush Beans, Altoids, Amy's frozen pizza, etc, etc. ????
Just curious..
Thanks again Mags, You are truely a jewel!!! A lot of us would be lost without you!!!

LOL I can only imagine this scenario. I feel kinda bad for your mom, though, since no one was paying attention to her or her new baby!! But maybe being born on a special day means something cool will happen to you?

Awww - you're too sweet Kandee!
Just so you know anyway , this is how I did the profiles: I went to the person's profile, selected the Address (that shows up in your browser - for example, here's yours: http://www.helpforibs.com/messageboards/ubbthreads/showprofile.php?Cat=&User=894&Number=38556&Board=livingroom&what=showflat&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=11&vc=1), did a copy, then in my post I was making, clicked on "URL" in the UBB Codes, then pasted the address in, then changed "web page" to the person's name. Ta-da! It's the same as linking to any other web page.
I can't modify the site any. I'd have to ask Heather to make a link to a page, and I know that would just be an extra thing for her to do, and I didn't want to bug her. I harass her enough with the Index. For the Recipe Index, I keep a file on my computer, then once a month I email it to her, and she just plugs it in to replace the new one. So, what I did for the birthdays was go to Birthdays (see, there's that link thing again ), then all the way at the bottom left, you'll see a link called "Favorite Thread! (toggle)". If you click on that, it will add it to your favorites. Then, you can go to My Home and it will always be there whenever you want to look it up. How's that?
I don't know what's going on with the safe foods list. I think Heather was supposed to put it together. I wonder how she's making out on it. Maybe I should see if she needs some help.

Mags,
Thanks for the explanation. I can see now how you linked the person's profile to the named URL. But didn't you have to put in each person's birthday by typing it in?
You just taught me something as well. I went to FAQ, and no where in there could I find where/how to add a favorite thread. Goodness, had no idea it would be at the very bottom of all the posts/replies. Now I know. I would not have been taking advantage of that feature if you hadn't mentioned. What I was doing, when looking for something, and I knew whose post or reply it was, was going back into their bio and clicking -show all this member's posts, then I could usually find it. By clicking the favorite threads option it is so much easier now.
At least I knew to go and click the preferences in my home so that another user could or could not see if I was on line. I'm sure there are other options I need to become familiar with.
You know, even though we here are a good and decent group, you never know what wack-os are lurking and then decide to come in and spoil the broth, so to speak. I think I agree with Heather on this one and opt not to have the IM's going. When I had AOL as my ISP the IM's got out of control. I finally opted out of all of it!! I don't see where anyone should have a problem with contacting one of us that put an email address in our bio if they want to contact us privately. Sometimes there are just things that we want to discuss that don't fit in on these boards.............however some of us have so much fun with topics that we get carried away and get off the topic anyway!
Thanks again............I is SOOO nice to know we can always come to you for help....

Yay! I'm glad I taught you something Kandee! Anytime I can, I'll try to help if you have any questions.
Hey - on that PMing thing, I agree too. After I thought about it, you either accept them all or none. It's not like you can block out the weirdos. (at least the bad ones! LOL)
Have you ever heard of ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, etc.? There are a ton of them. If you really wanted to chat with people, you could maybe use that. I know even in our bios Heather has a spot to put your ICQ Number.
Personally, I use MSN Messenger, and I've never had a problem with getting harassed. I have it set up where only people on my list can contact me, and anyone else has to get my authorization before they can. Also, you have the option to block people. I've also used ICQ before, but just switched, because everyone I chat with is on MSN also. I didn't get rid of it because I had a problem with it or anything. But, I think ICQ has the same security options.
Well, that's all just FYI for you anyway. I know I have fun using it, so I thought I'd share in case you'd be interested in something like that!
Did you see I asked Heather about the Safe Foods List? I will get with her and see how we can set it up and maybe get something going.

Hi Mags,
Yes, I had ICQ at one time. Guess I just got sooooo burned out on the IM thing that I'd rather not do that anymore....and just answer someone in my own sweet time. (It gets easier to say no the older one gets )
Yes, I did see where you asked Heather about the safe foods list. I suspect she is sighing over it..........like saying, oh my...yet ANOTHER THING TO DO!!!
Anyway, if I may, I'd like to make a suggestion and maybe if this safe foods list thing flies.....you may recommend that when folks offer one they make it is detailed as possible. Below is a little example I put together. See what you think????? Thanks again for being so patient with all of us trying to learn the ins and outs of these boards...Kandee

Hi I am new here I just got diagnosed with IBS I need guidance the doctor wants me to take paxil but I feel that It could be controlled in another way. I have three children to think of and I graduate in may with my BA Degree. The docotr thinks that i lead a stressful life. They say that Direa is not normal and that my consatnt nausea is mental. Even though I had foof poioning on chritmas I feel that it should of cleared up by now. I hate flare ups of this and I need to know if anyone else can point me in the right direction. I need energy and I want to be able to take good care of my children it is just that I have chronic fatigue with this IBS. I have not been able to stablize it yet.

Hi Mara Saw your post. Plenty of us IBSer's have nasea. Thing's that help are: Know your triggers, (stress, foods, etc)Read more on this site. Ginger tea helps me as does pepermint. I can't recall what Paxil is though I have heard of it. As for the fatigue, it will lessen once you start to stablize. Are you on a Soluble Fiber Supplement? It' s important for us, it will help your system stablize. Be sure to start in small doses & increase slowly. I suggest looking around this site & read as much as you can. It's full of info. Hope this helps!!
