Have you met anyone famous?

On another message board I go to this question was asked:

"Did you go to High School with anyone famous"

And it blew my mind...some of them went to college with Matt Damon. They went to school with Michelle Phiefer and Nicki Taylor etc.

So, did you know anyone famous?

Personally I knew no one...the closest I came to fame was at my old job (where DH still works) we rented out the back shop to the road crew of the Backstreet Boys so they could set up the stage and check for breaks and safety measures.

It was pretty cool. The funniest was when the crew left for the day and our Construction Worker boys got up and started dancing around only to get busted by a returning road crew guy who forgot something.

Too funny!

Your turn!

He was at the Playboy Club in Washingon, D.C. in 1964. I went there on a date, saw "The Stilt," and had him sign my Playboy Club napkin.

I still have that napkin in my scrapbook!

Okay, PUH-LEEZE don't tell me you don't know Wilt the Stilt.

I can honestly say I haven't heard of Wilt the Stilt.

But his name makes him sound like he could sell Viagra. I can see the commercial punchline.

Watch your Wilt turn to Stilt LMAO

Sorry - *snicker* I will hold myself back...I am sure he was quite a stallion in his time LOL

Oh - and never knew anyone famous. The closest I came was one of my classmates and also one of my teachers was Whitney Houston's cousin.

I've met a couple country music stars since my ex-beau has a country website that gets him backstage to a lot of concerts. Also got to interview Bill Bradly (not sure if he counts as a celebrity) when I was Editor-in-Chief of my newspaper. That's about it, I think. Not many celebs come up to the Bay Area - mostly around LA.

I went to High School with baseball player Mike Lansing (used to play for Montreal Expos and Colorado Rockies....not sure where he is now). I met Brenda Lee and got her autograph once after a Christmas concert she did with the Oak Ridge Boys. Met Chris LeDoux and see him around town once in a while (he lives not far from here).

Wilt The Stilt was a basketball player. He was the tallest man I have ever seen in my life -- 7 feet if he was an inch! The first man to score 100 points in a game.

Sheesh! Kids. Whadda they know anyhow?!

I went to school with the tall girl from Third Rock From the Sun.

I do not remember her name, did not know her in high school and she graduated a year ahead of me.

I met Billy Dean and John Michael Montgomery backstage at concerts while I was in high school (and in a really really bad country music phase). Monk (Tony Shalob) waved to me at LAX while I was in Cali for the Rose Bowl. We were eating b'fast at this cafe and he was wandering around in the small terminal. He stopped in front of our table, looked at us, realized that we realized who he was, waved, then got in line at Starbucks. It was cool.

I went to a performing arts high school and am a theatre person so I know a fair number of "famous" people. One of our big success stories is Paige Davis, the host of Trading Spaces. I haven't met her in person, but we have emailed. Sara Gettelfinger just finished up a run starring in the Broadway play "Nine" with the dude from Full House. We've had 2 Miss America contestants in the past four years, although I'm not sure that's worth bragging about. The other day Tommy Lee Jones was eating at the same restaurant that my husband's company Christmas party was at and his co-worker interrupted his dinner. I met Marsha Norman, who won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Oh, Nicole Sherzinger who I was in a couple of plays with was in that band "Eden's Crush" that got their start through the WB show "Pop Stars" (Again, not really something to brag about). She was a very nice girl.

That's all I can think of right now... I mostly know pseudo-famous people. Famous in the theatre world.

Bite your tongue!! Country music is not bad. Actually the other night I was going through some pictures and I had pictures in the album of Billy Dean.

I met the 90's group Right Said Fred. The only song they were ever famous for was I'm Too Sexy. They were actually really nice. I also met Ivan and Nikita Koloff. They used to be famous wrestlers. I met all of these people at my parent's old restaurant. Ivan was a regular. He came to the county fair one year and I ran into him when I was with some friends and he acutally said "Hi Joy." I thought everyone I was with would die.

Where did you go to school??? My one dream is to go to a performing arts school after I graduate. I've already been in choir forever, and I just finished up with a theater class at school. I'm goin to take another, but it doesn't start until second semester of next year. We were just talking about acting school today in class, but they were all in New York and I can't remember the names of them ( I wish I could!). How did you like it? What were your schedules like?

I went to the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville, Kentucky. It's been awhile, so my feelings are colored by a fair bit of nostalgia. Let's see, it was attached to a magnet high school with a math/science magnet, a communications major etc. so everyone at my school had a major. I had seven periods a day (they've gone to block scheduling), two hours of theatre classes, one hour of playwrighting/directing, and usually one hour of some elective relevant to my major (dance class instead of gym, for example). The seventh period was extra, most people didn't have one, and I had to take foreign language classes at night at UofL on my own dime (I couldn't fit them in and they were a graduation requirement). Other than that I had normal high school classes. A lot of my teachers were crazy (that will continue on if you study the arts. ), but it was great being in classes with people who really loved what they were doing, and doing shows all of the time. Mostly I just remember being SO BUSY. It seemed like we were always in rehearsal, a lot of times late at night. During the New Works Festival I'd be involved in three-four shows at a time. We were also very cliche, in that we were angsty drama geeks who smoked. I don't recommend you do that. I did give me a focus that a lot of high school kids didn't have, and surely helped a great deal when I was auditioning/applying for colleges. The down side was that there are only so many days in a row you want to rehearse Trojan Women scenes in class before you need to start screaming.

You live in Indiana right? Have you checked out Butler? That's where I did my undergraduate degree. They have awesome theatre and vocal departments, and great access to study abroad. They're doing a lot of very cool, very interesting shows there. Let me know if you want more info.

Believe me, I know about the Trojan women scenes. We did sooooo many of those in class. And actually,I have an info packet on Butler from our college fair that we had in September. I haven't looked into it much, but now that you told me about it, I'll definitley look at it some more. I loved my theater class because it's the one class of the day where it's ok to be stupid and not actually LOOK stupid while you're doing it lol. We had our last class today, and we had private sessions with the teacher on what we could work on, what she liked about us, etc. She told me that I could work on moving around the stage more, but that I did well this semester and should definitley audition for the next play, which I was going to do anyway (she's one of the heads fo casting so maybe she's trying to tell me something? ). So what are you up to now?

I've no idea why I'm posting this, as it will probably mean NOTHING to any of you on the other side of the ocean, but..
my parents (and me) are originally from Liverpool, England and they grew up there in the 50s/60s/early 70s until we moved away. So they were around in that great old era that produced loads of famous people and music from out of Liverpool.

My mum's cousin (who she saw a lot of and was quite close to) was the original drummer with 'Jerry and the Pacemakers' (ever heard the Liverpool anthem 'You'll never walk alone') and ...

my dad's cousin was Leonard Rossiter (my paternal grandmother's maiden name was Rossiter and Leonard was a few years older than my dad, but they knew each other when my dad was a kid) - very famous actor over here - starred in 'Rising Damp' and, well see the link if you're even remotely interested!!!...

Unfortunately, those talented musical/acting genes totally missed me! lol

I haven't heard of him, but I've seen Space Odyssey a million and one times so I would probably know what he looks like if that site had a picture. Why they couldn't get a picture after all of the films he's been in, I'll never know......

No. Good guess, though. The Stilt was much better than that -- he went from college directly to the pros; he was on top for a very long time.

At least you've heard of the Globetrotters. Damn I'm feeling old. Think I'll go out in the garden and eat worms.

Do any of you watch Guiding Light? That's my soap, and my dad went to school with the guy who plays Billy Lewis. Not that I've met him, but I thought that was an interesting tidbit.

Lennie Kravitz got to go in front of me when I was first in line for a roller coaster once... does that count as meeting someone famous??

After I graduated from Butler I did my MA in Drama at Washington University in St. Louis. Now I'm working on my PhD in Performance Studies at UT-Austin. Eventually I want to end up teaching theatre history/playwriting/directing at a small liberal arts school. So depending on when you get to college there's a small chance I could be your theatre professor.

Now, as for famous people, I've only met two: Rob Thomas, my incredibly hunky blue-eyed friend who also happens to be the lead singer of Matchbox Twenty (ok, so we're not exactly on a friend basis...but I did help him light his cigarette once And I have a pic of him and me which complements his baby blues oh so well *sigh*) and Boyd Tinsley, yet another very attractive musician from my favorite band ever, the Dave Matthews Band. I can watch him play the violin with his shirt off all day long!

I just came across this question and I have a claim to fame. When I was little, I grew up in LA in a small beach town called Manhattan Beach. My dad used to go to this small, dark video store to find videos for myself and my 3 sisters. This guy behind the counter was always creepy, but used to recommend really good family movies. Turns out that guy behind the counter turned out to be Quentin Tarantino, who made Pulp Fiction. Now that I live in NYC, I have a lot of famous people. I spoke with Sarah Jessica Parker and Mathew Broderick on the subway and have run into a lot of other ones. Some of them I don't even recognize on the street.

I had a friend who interned at the Roundabout in NY for a season and when he came back he was the biggest name dropper. SJP and Matthew Broderick were two of the many, many people he had drinks with (according to him). I finally asked him when he was going to get over this stage!

Also, I forgot to mention I met Salman Rushdie... I helped run a book signing he did at Wash U.

Yeah, I have to say that I was definately a name dropper when I first moved to the city, but after a while, all the people you see just seem like normal people. I think that SJP and Mathew Broderick were so exciting to see because she was pregnant, on the subway, and Sex and the City was one of my favorite shows. But then again, it still sounds like I am name dropping!
