I'm lost! The IBS food chart says to eat insoluble foods with caution, ex. apples, broccoli. But on the FODMAP chart it says DON'T eat these foods. So for a person new at this I am stumped. Can someone explain to a novice?

Heather does not take into consideration FODMAPs. Inulin is a soluble fiber but it is also high FODMAP. Similarly FOS and GOS are soluble fibers but high FODMAP. There are many soluble fibers that are low FODMAP for example Heather's tummy fiber, Benefiber, etc
Kate Scarlata - a dietitian with IBS - has written an excellent overview article on the FODMAP diet

I am confused. There are so many different opinions about IBS-D and diet. If you follow your guidelines and then see others (FODMOP) where foods that are "safe"(ex. apples, mangos, beets) on this website are not on others, so how does a nubee know which is correct?

Methylcellulose soluble fiber should be considered fodmap free (chemically altered a little though), since it is not fermentable by ANY bacteria, per Citrucel's website. But, it will not feed and help grow good bacteria like the all natural soluble acacia "Tummy Fiber."
