Hello there
I'm 26 weeks pregnant and have chatted with my midwife about IBS and giving birth. She assures me that she's never had an IBS Mum with birth complications resulting from the IBS.
I'd like to hear from anyone who has a birth story; did you get a flare up? Were there IBS symptoms that caused any problems? Any tips on things which helped or were unhelpful at the time or in the weeks before birth?
Having a very positive pregnancy and feeling great in spite of the occasional attack.
AJ

Had a great pregnancy and no IBS never became a problem.
I also had a midwife.
I did notice my symptoms return after I quit nursing.
Are your IBS problems gone right now?

At the moment I get a vomiting attack on a 2 week cycle, it knocks the stuffing out of me for a couple of days then I get back on track. I'm bothered about whether giving birth will trigger an attack; when I get sick and the headache comes it is hard to get out of a chair and walk accross the room let alone labour to deliver a baby.....
It is good to know that it wasn't a problem fo you, several people have said that breastfeeding helped their IBS so that's good news too!

Trust me, when the time comes to give birth, IBS will be the least of your worries!!!! No, I had no IBS issues with delivery. If you deliver vaginally, there's a good chance you'll have C for a few days (that first BM is the hardest to get thru!!!) so you might keep some Natural Calm on hand. Breastfeeding has been a miracle cure for my IBS!!! My daughter is going to be 1 year in two weeks, and we've still got a great nursing relationship. I hope you decide to go that route too. I won't lie, it's hard, and we've been through a LOT, but it's the most rewarding thing you will ever do.

Good luck!!
