amitiza (lubiprostone) Has anyone else tried this medication?

I finally broke down and agreed to try a prescription to help my IBS-C. My doctor prescribed 8mg of amitiza, twice a day. I'm not sure if I'm taking this wrong, or what the problem may be, but each time I have taken it, it makes my stomach hurt and I have to stay near the bathroom! Any idea?

Hi Shannon,
If you do a Google search for amitiza you'll find a few sites that indicate the side effects you appear to be experiencing. They all recommend that you speak to your doctor about it.

I take Amitiza 24mcg twice a day for IBS-C and Chronic Constipation. I have never experienced D with it, but I have had shortness of breath some. I think that the benefits outweigh the risks in the long run. But like he said, talk to your doctor about the side effects. I find the Amitiza helps me. Also, drink plenty of water when you take it and don't take it on an empty stomach. HTH
