"Bob and Margaret" -- for Canadians Only

"Bob and Margaret" is my favorite TV show. It's not available in the States, only in Canada, so the only time I get to see it is when we go up there. When we had a second home up there, I used to set our VCR and tape an entire week's programs so I could enjoy them when we went up on the weekends. Now that we sold the house up there, I never get to see my favorite show.
It's an adult animated sitcom about an English couple from London forced to immigrate to Ontario and what they go through getting acclimated to a different environment. He's a stuffy dental surgeon, she's an open-minded chiropodist, and they have two adorable little dogs doing what dogs do. If you haven't seen the program, treat yourself! By the way, there are no holds barred with this show! I was surprised. But it's extremely enjoyable, very, VERY funny.  I'm keeping all my tapes and watching them over and over again.

LOL - we get Bob & Margaret too!! My 8 year old nephew likes it so we often watch together. Have missed it a few times recently though! It's very British humour. I work for a stuffy English dentist so it makes me laugh even more !!!

ShellsBells, you get it in the UK? Oh, you guys are SOOO lucky! I just love the show. I figured it must be British humor. Yeah, that makes sense. Your dentist is like Bob, is he? When Bob sticks an instrument in a patient's mouth, you just know the inevitable -- and my husband and I just scream with laughter. It's absolutely DELIGHTFUL.
To all you guys out there who can get it but haven't seen it, treat yourself!
I wrote the BBC to see if we couldn't get it here in the States. (We have a BBC America channel.) So far, no luck. I'm just gonna have to be satisfied with playing old tapes.

lol We get a few old British sitcoms on PBS. We get ones liek You Being Served? and Vicar of Darbley and this other one that I haven't been able to figure out the name of yet.....but I think that they're very funny, even if I don't know some of the names for the British currency. I always figured there was poun, pence, and Euro, but then I guess there's the slang ones, too? lol I'm confused!

Have you ever heard of Benny Hill? He always cracked me up. I taped all his shows too -- but unfortunately they're all on my old Betamax!
I've never known of a funnier commedian.

lol - Are you being served is an old one - I can't just think whether that's going back to the v old (not so old that my mum can't remember!) currency of pounds, shillings and pence - there were all sorts of funny old coins then like half-crowns, threepenny bits etc - very confusing!!
Now it's pounds and pence and we may go Euro eventually, but it's not looking imminent!
Vicar of Dibley is v funny - that one's not so old. Dawn French (the vicar) is a big hit over here. She does a show with Jennifer Saunders which does a fab take on popular culture - they take the mickey (?make fun of) the latest big stars/TV shows/films out and whatever's been hitting the news. They just did a Christmas special with an alternative Queen's speech (the Queen always broadcasts a message to the nation on Christmas day) and Dawn French played Catherine Zeta Jones as 'Queen of Wales', reflecting on her marriage into the US 'Royal' 'Spartacus' family!!
Ha Ha.

My dad watched Benny Hill all the time and I ended up watching him too. I was always so shocked when I was little to see someone chasing around so many girls!

Did you see the episode in which he spoofed the infamous cyclist Eddie Mercks? He was Eddie Marks, wearing his hat backwards, being real cool, and as he threw his leg around the bicycle seat, the seat went flying through the air just as he came down to sit on it! The surprising look on his face as he sat on the seat post! He cracked me up.
He was SOOOO funny! Just the mention of his name brings a big grin to my face.

Ha Ha! Benny Hill is going back a bit too! I remember watching him as a young girl! Did you know that the British girl in Frasier started out in the Benny Hill Show?! We don't get many repeats of his shows now, because he's just a bit controversial - not very PC!! Weren't most of his fantasy sketches about women taking over the world?!
Some argue now that his sketches were ironic and he was totally into 'girl power', others say he was just a dirty old man on TV. Whatever, his shows were big at the time, families sat and watched them together and everyone had a laugh!
