Oh yes - if only these boards had sound, I could sing that music to you now!! That tune is so distinctive, it must be ingrained into the British public - if you ever hummed it and said 'name that tune' EVERYONE (at least my age (30) & over) would know it was Benny Hill. Lol, ha ha! Just thinking about Benny's face just cracks me up...

Sort of reminds me a bit also of Les Dawson and that other guy, you know - they used to dress up as middle aged women, pouting and adjusting their bosoms! Sat gossiping about all the neighbours on their street! Ah, it's all coming back to me now!

This has got to be one of the most enjoyable subjects we've discussed yet in The Living Room.

I saw an interview on "Biography" about Benny Hill. While he enjoyed portraying a dirty old man, more than anything he loved to make people laugh. To me, that makes for a very special person.

I cried when he died.

lol - Are you being served is an old one - I can't just think whether that's going back to the v old (not so old that my mum can't remember!) currency of pounds, shillings and pence - there were all sorts of funny old coins then like half-crowns, threepenny bits etc - very confusing!!

Now it's pounds and pence and we may go Euro eventually, but it's not looking imminent!

Vicar of Dibley is v funny - that one's not so old. Dawn French (the vicar) is a big hit over here. She does a show with Jennifer Saunders which does a fab take on popular culture - they take the mickey (?make fun of) the latest big stars/TV shows/films out and whatever's been hitting the news. They just did a Christmas special with an alternative Queen's speech (the Queen always broadcasts a message to the nation on Christmas day) and Dawn French played Catherine Zeta Jones as 'Queen of Wales', reflecting on her marriage into the US 'Royal' 'Spartacus' family!!
Ha Ha.

Laughter is the best form of medicine...

Yep we have a bunch of shows here that like rag on (mickey ) the President's speeches (not that they're ever incredibly intelligent to begin with). My mom is a big fan of Catherine Zeta Jones so I bet she would have loved to have seen that show.
Ok, so you have a threepenny bit-where are the fourpenny and twopenny bits?? LOL And since there's a half-crown, is there just a crown? You're right, this is confusing. But then again, ours may seem confusing as well lol.
