My son became sick in March of this year, in which he had the sulfur burps. He has had bouts with diarriha every month(1-3) since then. His doctor thinks it is IBS although I am not so sure. Do you have Sulfur burps with this? He has also had a low grade fever and swollen neck glands 3 times since this has started. No one else ever gets sick from this. He complains of just feeling bad. The doctor did not check for anything at his annual physical last week. She feels it is IBS because of his anxity type tics, the mind gut connection, but shouldn't she rule out other possiblities. She did ask if any one in our family had Crohns. I told her not to my knowledge. She told me if I see blood in his stool to bring him back in. I plan to start the diet on this site asp. Does this sound like IBS? Any information will be very helpful.. Thank you

Kaykelly--Has your son been tested for Lyme disease, mono, or viral infections? Swollen glands is not a symptom of IBS in my experience. If he hasn't been tested, you should insist. It also wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion.

I agree. The fever swollen glands are not usually signs of IBS. I would insist on blood work being done. A friend of mine's little girl had this going on and off for about a month and they found out she had strep in her blood. She never had a sore throat, but apparently that is not a symptom when it gets in the blood. They treated her with antibiotics and she is fine now. As a mom myself, I believe that you are your child's advocate and should insist on things especially of your mother's instinct is telling you otherwise. And if the doctor doesn't agree, go to one that does!!

My advice is to find a new doctor as I find it shocking that she would diagnose IBS without any tests. I'm especially concerned about the swollen glands as is not a typical IBS symptom which your doctor should know! The whole well he's a anxious wee boy is just a variant on the "it's all in your head" approach to IBS.
