My back problems stemming from my accident promped me to seek a new physical therapist, and I'm glad I did. She told me I should look up Tarlov Cysts.

I did, and the description matches my lumbar MRI results to a T. I have a large, dural sac between my S1 and S2 vertebrae, that's filled up with CS fluid. It was brought on by the car accident, the pain radiates to my opposite leg, and I lose strength in that leg and can't walk when it flares up. Just like the description says!

So I'm a little dismayed at yet another diagnosis to throw on the pile , but there IS a surgery, and I have an appointment with my doc on Monday to go over my options and get a referral to a surgeon. Wish me strength!!

Well! I'm SO happy that you now have an explanation!! Back pain is the WORST, I've had surgery on my spine before, but it was SO worth it! Good luck with everything, and keep us posted!!

Blah! Yes I suppose it is better than having yet another undiagnosable pain. Still, whenever some part of you gets a new label for what's wrong with it, I think its human nature to kind of feel like crap about it for a little while. I had cysts removed elsewhere and it was the easiest operation I've gone through. hopefully you'll be done with the back pain and saying the same real soon.

Well Nel, at least it has a name!! Sorry you have something else to add to your medical resume. I get tired of telling people what does / has ailed me because the either think I'm a hypocondriac or that I should live in a bubble!

Hopefully you get the proper treatment and you will be feeling better soon!

HUGS!!

Yeah, I agree, as much as it absolutely just plain sucks, at least you now what IT is. Add it to the list and go about trying to get it treated.
