I was wondering if anyone uses the gluten free diet to help with their IBS... i am just starting out in the world of IBS ...that is i have had it forever but now we narrowed it down to a name IBS ...so i was wondering if gluten free products would help or hurt??? i have a hard time with what i can and can't tolerate..sometimes some foods are fine and then other times they are not!!!! it is so frustrating i am in another flare up and just came back from the doctor she told me to stay on the brat diet for awhile.. but i would like to start back on the right foot...not looking forward to more flare ups!!! thanks carol1968

I used to be on that diet for almost a year before process of elimination showed that part of my problem was IBS. It made me go slightly insane too
These two sites were practically my Bible when I learned about the proper IBS diet: http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/faq.asp and http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/how_to_eat.asp

A GF diet has helped several people on here with their IBS symptoms, but unless you have celiac, I don't think it's "necessary." Just have to try it, and see if it works for you.

I eat a wheat free diet, I have tested negative for the Celiac disease, but I know that I can not tolerate wheat. It has been extremely helpful to me, I eat Ezekiel Breads and also a wheat free rye bread, both taste good to me! Hope everyone is hanging in there!

Try having IBS, Celiac, and lactose intolerant. Sometimes I am so depressed about not being able to eat what had been my favorite foods, why bother eating. I've dropped to less than 120 lbs and am 5'6" and my husband is almost frantic with worry.

Ezekiel bread only contains the sprouted wheat. I can not tolerate wheat and I eat Ezekiel bread with out any problems. Their website has information about the difference the sprouted grain makes for people with wheat intolerance. I would recommend Ezekiel breads to anyone who can't seem to tolerate wheat, it is worth it.

I truly understand how you feel Sandy! I am lactose intolerant and wheat intolerant, and my weight is too low too. I am 5'2'' and weigh 97 pounds. I understand how depressing it can get when you feel like their is nothing to eat. I drink Silk Soy milk and Odwalla protein drinks as well, and there really are some great breads and other foods out there for Celiac. You just have to research a bit and go through trial and error to find out what works for you.
Don't give up, we are all here to support everyone!
