Ok, so even if I don't have a date, I'm still going to have a lot of fun! My friend is letting me borrow her dress and I'm doing my own hair ( ), and we're going to T.G.I. Friday's before. Now Mark is gonna be there, but since he's so dern shy I can't even talk to him! lol I sometimes wish I had more guy friends so that way I had more people to dance with. I'm pretty shy myself, so it's not in my nature just waltz up to some stranger and ask him to dance lol. I think I'm going to eat before I go to Friday's just so that way I don't have to worry about not finding anything on the menu that I'm able to eat. I got a chicken at the store last night so maybe I'll make that up and some rice. So anyways, I thought this might be a good time for some of you guys to rehash some old dance memories? hehe I have one but it's really, really embarassing lol I still regret it.......so does anyone what to go first (maybe I'll confess later )???

Peaches have a great time tonight!!! I understand about being shy and I didn't date in High School. Actually my parents woudn't let me date until I turned 16, even then I couldn't go to my high school dances and football games.

I turned 18 my Senior year and my parents finally let me go to my Homecoming and Prom dances. Since I was shy and didn't know how to dance I was embrassed to go out on the floor. When I did, I step on my date's feet and a few friends teased my about how I dance.

I dance only around my kids now, because they laugh at how silly I am.

Bill Nance (sigh) had a party at his house -- in the basement -- and I was invited. It was my first. Ray Sims was there too (heavy sigh). I wore my aunt's orange and white-striped blouse, my green poodle skirt, and my saddle shoes (of course) and heavy socks. I looked coool. They turned the lights down low, and I danced with Bill to the tune of "Blue Moon" by Elvis. It was HEAVEN. I was SWOONING. It was 1957.

Ooh let us know what happens and if you talk to Mike!

Hmm.. embarassing dance stories.. where to start? LOL

Before he became my very best guy friend in high school, this guy used to spill soda on me (not on purpose.. always on accident) at every dance. Luckily he always drank Sprite and I always made sure to wear dark colors just in case his beverage of choice changed!

LOL Jen! I had a near miss with red punch (the cups were really really small, so yes, I did have a cupful) but I was ok! I didn't get asked to dance by anybody, but Mark was staring at me the ENTIRE NIGHT and I was sooo happy!! His date was clingy, though, so he didn't even dance with anybody else since she wouldn't let him lol. I havent been able to make it to the past two basketball games, but (since we live in the Basketball State) there was a magazine out at the convience store about all of the high school boys' teams and he had a huge picture of him taking up an entire page since he's so good! yay!! I would have bought it so that I could refer bakc to it during the year, but it was $7 and that's a lot for a magazine lol. SO anyways, the music was good, they actually had pretzels there, at T.G.I. Friday's I asked them if I could get a deduction on my grilled chicken sandwich since I wasn't getting anything on it (and they did!!), I didn't spill punch all over myself, and Mark stared at me. It was good lol. And Bev, your story sound incredibly romantic! Don't worry, Barbara, I don't like to dance either! I pretty much just stood there on the floor the whole night b/c I was too shy to dance

Peaches, print out that post and put it in your scrapbook -- or your diary -- or wherever you have your keepsakes. Don't ever throw it out. 40 years from now you'll thank me.

Bev.

I just love hearing about the dances you have over there!

When I was at school/college (in the UK) there was no annual dance - just a leaver's 'disco' (cringe). For any party like this there was NEVER any pressure to have a date to go with - groups of friends go together, have fun, act a little crazy and (as soon as you can get away with it, get drunk)! People get up and dance in groups, there's none of this asking someone to dance - it's more like going to a nightclub with a group of pals. There are no formal dresses/evening wear - just normal party/clubbing type outfits.

The first time I experienced anything like a formal dance was the Finals 'ball' when I finished Uni at 21.

Your way sounds much more romantic and exciting in a way (but also more depressing if the love of your life has another date to take!)

What grade are you in, Peaches? The best thing I ever did was during the Farewell Dance in 8th grade at Junior High was ask my now best guy friend to dance. Figured I didn't have anything to lose! We actually started dating in 9th grade, but broke it off deciding we'd much rather be friends. I am so happy I initiated it, though - we were going to two different high schools and we would have never been as good as friends as we are now!

I'm a sophomore (10th grade) and we have dances for EVRYTHING here! We have a Beginning of School dance, a Homecoming dance, a Christmas dance, and Easter dance, an End of the Year dance, two Proms, and a Morp (where girls ask guys to the dance). I think that's it......lol so that's the insane world of American high school lol
